Public safety is a main reason for the vacant property ordinance under consideration. 97% of the ~2,700 properties have had at least 1 police & fire call for nuisance. They put health & lives of police/fire at risk. They're not safe. #SaferCleanerGreener

@TimothyBoland1 Short answer is no. These buildings have no water & yet 97% have police and/or fire call. That is irresponsible. What this requires is a maintenance plan to prevent that from happening. Fines are only a resort if there is no compliance

@ElmwoodOtto This is separate of a VBML program and builds on it. VBML covers ~3k of the ~5K. This was designed with the admin to give them a tool for the other ~2k. Of those ~2k, 83% had fire runs; 72% had at least one police run; they are unsafe. Other tools will certainly be needed.

@8timewinner Every American has the right to peacefully protest. I also have the right to condemn that speech. The 400,000 Americans who died defeating Nazism/Fascism would agree with me. Nazi hate is anti-American.

This is great news - ahead of schedule. Thx to ODOT, Gov Dewine, and most importantly all of the workers working 24/7 to make this happen!
EXTRA EXTRA! Good news! The I-471 bridge will reopen on Sunday evening, exactly 100 days after the roadway was severely damaged by fire. Big shoutout to the contractors and ODOT team that made this possible😄 #ODOTworks

The reason that abandoned properties are the source of more injuries in fires for firefighters is that they are neglected. That's why we need the vacant property ordinance that I'm introducing, which will be discussed next week in Council to protect public safety & neighborhoods
For example, in 2024, a Cincinnati Firefighter broke his neck after falling through the ceiling of a vacant building. According to the NFPA, firefighters suffer more injuries at fires in abandoned properties than any other type.
