High-deductible barebones affordable policies for catastrophic illness or injury, with premiums priced on actuarial reality and lifestyle. Cash for basic medical services, with price competition and correct market incentives for better service. Free charity clinics and hospitals for truly poor and indigent people. That’s it.

Before Obamacare it was possible to buy health insurance that covered a catastrophic event (like cancer) and just pay out of pocket for a checkup. Obamacare means you have to pay more to subsidize all kinds of things that don’t impact you. And of course it has led to further consolidation in the industry. It’s a little like how Dodd Frank supposedly reformed the financial industry but really just locked in the dominant positions of the largest banks - the only ones that could afford the compliance costs. Any kind of big federal regulation that aims to ‘solve’ a problem usually just entrenches the largest players and makes life worse for normal people.

Edmond is right: the exposure of USAID is enormously important politically & psychologically, but the real cuts are in entitlements & “defense.”

What an absolute farce. This USAID thing is blowing people's minds and their budget is less than 0.7% of total government spending, and less than 2% of the annual deficit. When will we get to the real cuts? Those that will last and allow him to cut taxes sustainably.

@EndWokeness Only politics makes it possible for an absolute nullity like her to achieve a dubious notoriety. One of the most stupid, corrupt, and rapacious members of the US House, and that's saying something.

@bradleybirzer @Hillsdale @StateofNation25 Well-being is highly subjective and highly relative. We would not trade for our grandparent's material world, but they may well have been happier.
