Louis Castel was a French communist activist, trade unionist, and member of the Resistance. He joined the Communist Party and the CGTU Metalworkers’ Union in the 1920s and became deputy mayor of Gennevilliers in 1934. During the German occupation, he engaged in underground resistance activities but was arrested in 1940. Deported to Auschwitz on July 6, 1942, he perished there on August 11, 1942. After the war, he was posthumously honored as "Died for France," and a street in Gennevilliers was named after him to commemorate his dedication.
