@Xinchi_Yu @VSSMtg @IconLaboratory @DirkBWalther Indeed, it's not just that they are using DNNs, though. Rather, they are trying to develop models based specifically on the idea that Gestalt principles can predict aesthetic preferences for visual art.

@Xinchi_Yu @VSSMtg @IconLaboratory @DirkBWalther You might also look at the work out of Johan Wagemans' lab on aesthetic preferences and principles of perceptual organization. I believe they are doing a bunch of stuff with DNNs as well. :)

@lingdustin Not this specific manipulation. But similar stuff. Jenkins et al. (2011) showed that in a free face sorting task of a set of everyday photos of two faces, the average grouping was I think ~5 face IDs. when told there were only two faces ahead of time they would get it right.
