There were forty-seven of my family represnted here, I am now the last of them. I don't even know all their names. I picked a stone. 'You are all here now', I said, 'I am with you. I shall remember you.'
At some point yesterday evening, while sleeping under his favourite rose bush, our favourite big boy Koshka passed away in his sleep. I found him this morning when he didn't come for his breakfast. Now I have the sad job of burying him. He was 14, and the best. We'll so miss him.
The ECHR is NOT an EU court. It's a fully independent court which was set up after WWII - by the British with British lawyers and judges at Winston Churchill's behest to protect citizens from cruel and inhumane treatments by despotic governments within continental Europe.
#ECHR
You know what? I would REALLY rather Gary Lineker was hosting Question Time rather than the awful, biased Tory shill Fiona Bruce any day of the week. If the BBC need an idea - there you go!
#istandwithGaryLineker
Please, for the last time...I am in SW France, my wife in Luxembourg, our friend Jonathan in Paris, Andy Northern Germany, Other friends in Italy, Portugal and Switzerland...THERE'S NO SHORTAGES OF TOMATOES OR ANYTHING ELSE! It is a purely British phenomenon!
YOU KNOW, BREXIT!
Liverpool born Paul Mullin, has scored 2 goals this evening to put Ryan Reynold's Wrexham on the cusp of rejoining the Football League after 15 years out. Below is a picture of his infamous boots...I like this kid!
In the last 13 years of the UK's history, the life of the nation has been battered so utterly, that I, a devout Liverpool supporter, have been hugely moved by and will defend to the hilt 2 ex Evertonians: Gary Lineker & Neville Southall, and a special mention for Speedo Mick!
The Ballon d'Or is an annual football award presented by French news magazine France Football. I can only assume Messi won it because he now plays in France, because great as he is, he's done fuck all since Liverpool dumped Barca out of the CL.
I don't post this kind of stuff usually, but as I live in France, I thought the view from here might be of interest to Reds fans. The media/fan vibe here is that Aurelien Tchouameni has agreed in principle to join Liverpool. He has supposedly had glowing reports from Konaté.
Fellow Reds: Liverpool FC does not leak. There are no 'insiders', 'sources close' to etc since Ayre got the chop. We're a tight ship. A few journos get a heads up when a transfer is all but done, but that's it. The rest is opinion (often poor) or clickbait. Don't be taken in.
@DaveOCKOP
Lillian Thuram on French TV once said something along the lines of 'I never had the opportunity to play in England, but had I the chance, I would have liked to have played for Liverpool. There has always been something different, something enigmatic about them'.
The woman in this picture, Simone Segouin, was a fierce French resistance fighter, captured here by Robert Capa during the liberation of Paris in August, 1944. She captured 25 German Soldiers and was later the only woman to receive the Croix de Guerre, She died last week aged 97.
"Everyone knows the history between Liverpudlians and The Sun newspaper [referring to the coverage of the Hillsborough disaster], I have never spoken to a Sun journalist on a personal level."
- Wayne Rooney in court, giving evidence in the libel case against his wife.
We won comfortably yesterday with some of our best starters missing, moved up to 2nd with a game in hand which and City still have to play us. We're in the EFL semis, CL KO rounds and the FA Cup still to come...yet the bitching and whining on here drowns out any enjoyment, Mad.
@SueSuezep
@kellsley
Certainly...in British Jurisprudence this falls under section Vii, clause (a-i) of the 'Countryside and Open Spaces Act' of 1934. To wit, 'No posh person will ever be successfully prosecuted for maltreatment of any animals or livestock, just to satisfy some whining lefty plebs'.
PGMOL will be apologising to Liverpool again, for another 'significant human error', this time in regards to a clear penalty not given (Odegaard). So far this season, their 'apologies' have cost us 2 wins and 5 points. We would be top, 5 points clear, unbeaten. Not good enough.
When I was a kid, I got so emotional when the late Roger Hunt had to leave Liverpool. This summer, if as expected, Divock Origi leaves, I'll feel all that emotion again. Divock isn't the player my hero Hunt was, but my God, what memories he leaves us, a man synonymous with joy.
RIP Gordon McQueen, Scottish international CB and a gentleman of football. Yes, he played for 'them', but he was a good man. Interviewed in 1977 he famously said 'No working class person has any business voting Tory...it's about as stupid as you can be.'
I liked him.
To my grandparents, cousins, aunts, uncles - the 47 members of my family who were systematically murdered in Auschwitz-Birkenau, Treblinka, Belzec and Mauthausen...I am the last one standing. I never knew you, but I carry you within and shall never forget you.
#HMD2022
To all our friends out there, those we've met, those we speak to all the time, those we may not have spoken to in a good while, even those I may have made a guitar for - a very happy Xmas and fab New Year from myself, the cats and my beloved mince pie magician,
@MmedeBeauvoir
!
First morning together in Berlin. Outside our apartment is a 'Stolperstein' for Gertrud Grossman, who once lived here, in a building since destroyed. She was deported to Auschwitz where, like so many of my own family, she was murdered. Berlin is full of such stones and ghosts.
The crowd at the Emirates singing '2-1 to the referee' and sadly, they're not wrong. The referee has again been awful to the point you have to wonder are the dice being loaded. It's not like me to feel sympathy for Arsenal, but they have been cheated today.
@L4fckop
No, their best decision was recruiting Jurgen Klopp - the fantastic stadium overhaul and the building of the new training centre was their second best.
RIP Larry Lloyd, former Liverpool CB, the man Shankly replaced Ron Yeats with. Larry was a great, hard-tackling player, signed from Bristol City in 1969. Scored a few, stopped a lot more. These days, mostly thought of as a Forest player, he actually played more times for the Reds
Wataru Endo looks to be done bar the medical. Most won't know him - fair enough. I watch a fair bit of Bundesliga for familial reasons, so a thumbnail:
Compared by punters to Makelele in style, I think he's more like Gini.
He can tackle, break up play, score goals. He's good.
Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls...if you want to get a handle on just HOW bad this government is, here you go...they're being righteously trolled by NUNS!
So, now ALL of the regular MOTD on screen team have told the BBC to do one. They were NOT expecting this! It makes you proud that some are willing to stand by decent principles.
The BBC Tory directorate will be searching frantically for Sol Campbell and Peter Shilton's numbers...
RIP George Aligiah from cancer, one of the BBC's better reporters at the age of 67. Earned his spurs at many a war and disaster zone when the BBC news was still honest. Very well liked and admired by his colleagues.
The next day, and I'm still giggling at the Sportswashing fans singing 'Shit Andy Carroll! You're just a shit Andy Carroll!' at Nunez when he came on...didn't take long for that to die in their throats.
On Friday the Legislature in St. Petersburg demanded that the Duma censure Putin for his lies about the 'Special Military Operation' in Ukraine...they were arrested. On Saturday the Legislature in Moscow demanded Putin resign. The crumble has begun.
@ShanklysBoys1
This is the thing. We're often told as Liverpudlians that we have a victim 'mentality'. Not true. We have a 'sorting shit out and helping people' mentality, and then we want to know how the shit was allowed to happen in the first place.
47 members of my family died at in the camps. Exactly how much of me is Jewish, I don't know. I was adopted and there's no one left to ask, as I'm the last of the line. I'm no Zionist. All life is sacred, all races deserve life. We are one humanity. It's time we acted like it.
RIP Robbie Coltrane...working class boy made good as an actor and comedian, world famous as Hagrid, but he really wanted to be a rock 'n roller...and he wasn't bad at it either. He'll be missed.
into woods near an unguarded part of the Swiss border, there to escape. He forged signatures and had documents made up to help others change their identity, yet he's hardly known about. This was Albert Göring, brother of Hermann Göring. You're not born evil, you choose it.
End
RIP Andreas Brehme at 63, German international footballer who could, and did play anywhere from left back to attacking midfielder. Strong, two-footed he was a start for national team, as well as Bayern and Inter among others. A formidable opponent and by all accounts, a good man.
Controversial opinion:
I love Steven Gerrard as much as any Red - I saw his whole career - Captain Fantastic indeed! However, I don't think as a manager, he'll ever be good enough for Liverpool...but Thiago Alcântara just might.
Dear Reds...not a great performance, but not our worst. Everton were up for it as they should be in a derby, so annoying as 0-0 is, it's hardly a surprise, even hitting the post x3. Point is, if you must rage and moan, do it with someone else. I enjoy LFC - I don't suffer from it
There was a man who hated and despised the Nazis. He helped many Jews escape them, as well as political enemies such as actors, scientists and fallen royalty. When running a Skoda factory ostensibly FOR the Nazis, he encouraged sabotage, drove trucks of Jewish workers... (1)
RIP Edison Arantes di Nascimento, better known to the world as 'Pele' or the 'Black Pearl' has died from cancer at age 82. I saw him play live in 1966 at Goodison. he was doing Messi before Messi was born and in far worse conditions. He was the GOAT before the term was coined.
RIP Nichelle Nichols, the original Uhura, who was going to quit early in the Star Trek series as she felt underused. She didn't, as she was told her playing an intelligent black woman on TV who wasn't someone's maid was vitally important by Martin Luther King. She was cool.
You utter, utter, cowards. Ian Wright will also not present or appear in solidarity with Gary. Add the decision to not show The Attenborough episode on 'natural destruction', the BBC and its Tory apparatchiks are now in the middle of an existential crisis.
Darmanin really getting his arse handed to him by politicians & journalists of all shades here in France, as is the Police Chief of Paris for the complete mess at the 'Stade de la Farce' as the media are now calling it. Basically, with elections in a couple of weeks, he's fucked.
FT: Nottingham Forest 0 Liverpool 1. That's what you have to do if you want to win titles...play to the very last second. 3 heavy games in 6 days (including an ET Final) and we won them all with patched up squads, heart and determination. Absolutely wonderful!
Loving the Queen does not mean you're patriotic, she is a monarch, not a country or people, you're a Royalist who believes some people are born 'better'. The National anthem is NOT a National anthem, it's a Royalist anthem, which eulogises the monarch, not the country or people.
@UtdOptimist
They wouldn't. You're looking at individuals, Liverpool is a team, first and foremost and you have to play as a team, working as a unit. You constantly overrate your players (not just you, all united fans). There is a reason things are not that good, and it's not all Ole's fault.
FT: Liverpool 7 Man Utd 0. Wasn't bad was it? Fully deserved too! We've been improving in recent weeks, scoring a few more...today, we were THAT Liverpool in the second half. Onward and upward...I hope the dildos that flew that banner over Anfield feel like the tits they are.
So the Klopp era at Liverpool is drawing to it's end...a little earlier than we expected, but I suspect the planning is already well in gear, upon which I have my own thoughts. Like every Red, I shall be devastated to see Jurgen go and trepidation is real, yet likely unfounded.
UK voters. If you don't enjoy the lies, hypocrisy, 178k covid deaths, hungry children and a systematically run down NHS etc, stop voting Tory. Whether Corbyn, Starmer or another, Labour may cock up or do dumb things sometimes, but they don't set out to rob and lie from day one.
Sunak's never known real struggle
His life is one of ease and entitlement
He's never felt hunger or want
He's breezed through life, all doors open
He knows the price of everything, the value of nothing
He knows nothing of people like us
This man should be nowhere near government.
She'll see this tomorrow no doubt, but hey - it needs saying.
@MmedeBeauvoir
and I have been together for almost twelve years, married for just over the last three. Best years of my life...best years, I say. What a life we have made. I tell you folks, love is all.
@i_iratus
@KemiBadenoch
Well said. She's clearly unwilling to engage in an inner dialogue about her own familial history and culture. It's why I'll never understand ethnically diverse people in the Tory party, trying to be 'more English than the English' and projecting a right-wing and white orthodoxy.
RIP Sinead O'Connor. An amazing vocal talent, never prepared to play the 'girly singer' role the record company wanted. Outspoken politically and religiously, she was always honest to herself in an at times difficult life. A friend who worked with her, called her a 'gentle soul'.
I will be flying for the next week after that! Bloody marvellous! So pleased for Kelleher! Also Elliott and the new boys, Konaté and Diaz - I've never seen any player happier to win any trophy than Kostas Tsimikas was!
@fiddik
@IanDunt
They are like an 80s trade unionist, fought all their younger lives for honesty and a fair deal for the working man of any colour or creed...then Thatcher says they can buy their council house and in 6 months they're voting Tory and worried about their taxes and £50 shares in BP.
@Springss_CFC
I've been going to games since 1963. I've heard Chelsea fans sing the 'Horst Wessel Lied' at games, heard them make 'hissing' sounds at Spurs, seen them push black people of the Metro in Paris singing "We're racist and that's the way we like it". Hillsborough, 'sign on'. Karma.
Memories...thinking of Gladys, my late adoptive Mum. As kids in the 60s, we had long summer days often ending in big thunderstorms over Liverpool. She would hide below the stairs, terrified. During the war, her home was hit by a bomb. She never got over it. Gone 25 years today.
Third day in London.. met up with my lovely old covid-riddled mate
@TonyEvans92a
at our old haunt in Pimlico on our first night. The great thing about meeting up with Tony is that after 10 years, we pick up as if we last saw each other yesterday. Part II tomorrow!
RIP Chris Bart-Williams, former Sheff Weds and Notts Forest midfielder, who died on the same day as his former manager, Trevor Francis. A fine player in his day, Bart-Williams was working as a coach to kids in the USA where he settled at the end of his career. He was 49.
@mafevema
@Keir_Starmer
It gives him the chance to say - free from recriminations - 'Look, it was tried, we tried to work with what people voted for, it failed, it can't be done in a way that benefits the country. We need to completely reexamine the whole Brexit question'.
RIP Franny Lee at 79. Primarily a Manchester City Legend from the days long before sportswashing. A fine player with a fiery temper, very strong, very skilled at a time when football was played on ploughed fields. Worthy of true praise from non-City fans.
I don't expect too many to agree with me on this, but all other issues aside, the sooner nationalism is dead and patriotism is relegated to sport and some other cultural activities, the sooner we can live where, and love who we like - the better off as a species we'll be.
Pedro Chirivella, one of our academy lads who didn't quite make it at Anfield, despite his great intelligence on the ball, has been tearing it up for Nantes in Ligue 1 this season, and tonight ran the show as Nantes beat PSG 3-1. Lovely to see him doing so well.
Anfield, the year I went to my first live game. This season has been difficult for many reasons, but don't tell me there's never any progress, don't tell me the sky's falling in. You can knock us down, but we'll get back up again. 'You'll never walk alone' means something to us.
I will be 65 this year. I don't live in the UK anymore since 2013, and rarely visit, only when I have to, and yet...I have never liked the Tories, never voted for them, even in their 'gentler' more patrician days. Since Thatcher, I have despised them, now I actively hate them.
I understood where all those reds who were saying 'it would be a shame for the city if Everton went down' were coming from....but after that performance, fuck 'em, says I.
After 13 years together, living in three different countries (currently 2), having been married for nearly 4 of those years,
@MmedeBeauvoir
and I have finally booked our first holiday for this coming September...
As an LFC fan, am I glad we have Darwin Núñez?
Absolutely I am - once bedded in, he will be such a plus.
As an LFC fan, am I sorry Sadio Mané has gone? Absolutely I am - he was terrific for us and more often than not, unplayable.
These 2 views are not contradictory. Evolution.
