I...disagree. Men should treat women like individuals who are deserving of respect because they exist. Women shouldn’t have to belong to a man (somebody’s daughter, sister, mother) to be respected.
Not socio-economic status, not education level, but race(ism). There is a maternal health crisis in the U.S., and Georgia has the worst maternal health outcomes.
Racism is the reason black mothers in the U.S. are far more likely to die of childbirth or pregnancy-related causes than white mothers.

“The only difference between the woman who sells her body through prostitution and she who sells herself in marriage is the price and duration of the contract.” — Thomas Sankara
Sooooo even if you marry them, they still weaponize “baby mama” rhetoric even though people swear there’s some big difference between the two. Good luck disproving misogyny y’all.
I keep thinking about the millions of dollars dumped into political campaigns this year while homelessness increased, hungry persisted, and so many lost access to healthcare. I don’t know. I don’t feel excited or like celebrating - I feel sad.
Harris doesn’t even need a policy platform. She’s running on your fear and desperation, and not on a commitment to changing anything. I don’t want to denigrate my people, because I know that the blind support of her is indicative of the suffering/terrible material conditions.
Elizabeth Warren is a US imperialist, and so, her “plans” for Black women in the US does not eliminate/outweigh the harm she would continue to do in Latin America. Hellllo. Can y’all hear me? We must connect our local issues to global issues.
Most meetings are not designed with nuerodiversity in mind. The expectation for me to process and have a response to complex questions in the moment is incredibly frustrating and anxiety-inducing for me.
Simply put, I’m a Black parent raising Black children in a neighborhood adjacent to the Forest. It’s because I love my children, and my neighbors that I oppose the construction of Cop City, a police training facility.
Joy James:
State feminists will agree that there’s chauvinism, patriarchy, etc, sexism, homophobia. They will not agree…that the state is a hunter, that imperialism is a zone of terror. Because once they do that, the funding dries up.
Maybe let’s talk about daughters not belonging to their fathers, so that men that date women do not view the women as belonging to them. But then, we’d have to talk about patriarchy and heteronormative.
In the West, biological determinism is a filter through which all knowledge about society is run. Oyěwùmí calls this “body-reasoning” a biologic interpretation of the social world.
Mind you, June Jordan’s birthday was a couple days ago. Audre Lorde wrote “Apartheid USA” + “Grenada Revisited.” Maria Lugones coined “decolonial feminism.” Sylvia Tamale wrote Decolonization and Afro-Feminism. Just say you don’t read, it’s okay.

I call on any candidate for president that values Black lives to end the federal 1033 Program that provides our local police and schools with drones, tanks, and Ml6 weapons. This can and should be done by executive order. 1/2
Speaking of abandonment, my brother is incarcerated in FL. There is a historic hurricane heading his way, and not a motherfucking thing I can do to protect him. It is unlikely they will evacuate him and others. I do not have the patience.
I feel like I’m screaming into the void about the dangers of not urgently adopting a movement-wide stance on police/ing that is actually reflected in everything we do. Because this will get a lot worse.
NYPD seem to help the protester cling to the other as one is arrested. Once in the street, NYPD rip away & slam the small protester to the ground. Afterwards they take their glass from them.po
I think some people purposefully misrepresent identity reductionism as identity politics because identity politics was coined by Black (socialist) feminists.
Our Black feminist foremothers were imperfect, were humans. They made mistakes. Engaging them and their work from this place is helpful for carrying on a strong Black feminist tradition that makes new mistakes, and not old ones. They’ve given us so much to learn from. Grateful.
On our flight back to ATL tonight, there were two men sitting behind my partner and I and they were making jokes about sexual assault. My partner eventually turned around and gave them the business (not repeating what he said), but if he was silent, that would = complicity.

And, last month the Mississippi SC upheld a LIFE sentence for marijuana possession. The U.S. is the largest jailer in the world (2.19 million people incarcerated/25% of the world’s prison pop). Let’s connect the dots.
Global south feminists/decolonial feminists been had critique of intersectionality and the liberal who coined it. So, mfs tryna make this an umbrella critique of Black feminisms is really just about misogyny. Next.

the term “political prisoner” means nothing to the average brother or sister on the block, because the terms “liberation” and “revolution” mean nothing. The words have no meaning for our people, no real meaning, because we have done no real organizing…
Atlanta is the city with the highest rates of income inequality in this country. High rates of homelessness/housing insecurity, food insecurity, etc. Instead of ensuring folks have what they need, you plan to pour more money into policing

Thank you, moderators. I appreciate you fact checking assertions like: "you can execute babies after they are born" and "migrants are eating cats," I guess.
I beg the Black community to support any candidates that pledge to support these things. I beg of you to FORCE democrats to appreciate your loyalty more if any of them refuse to support Black lives by refusing to vote for them. Period. No negotiations.

Some with recent Covid diagnoses are finding that contracting the illness they worked so hard to dodge for so long has brought them an unexpected reprieve from anxiety — instead of compounding it further.
As
@DorothyERoberts
reminds us, "True reproductive freedom requires a living wage, universal health care, and the abolition of prisons. Black women see the police slaughter of unarmed people in their communities as a reproductive justice issue…”
Anti-feminist reactionaries, antiBlack “leftists,” and people on the right all do it. It’s interesting because people will understand that revolutionary terms are regularly co-opted, but position terms/frameworks by Black feminists as problematic in their origins. I see the play.
I grew up in New England and lived in Boston for a few years to attend graduate school. I study and teach about race, racialization, and racial formation...Boston is the most racist city I’ve ever lived in. This is an ahistorical narrative.
Boston is a city that rejects racism and bigotry in all its forms. We are a community that stands for social, economic, and racial justice.
I am grateful to our local athletes for being a role model for the rest of the country.
I worry that people will take “turning GA blue” or a Biden-Harris victory as some signal that we are moving in the right direction...that there’s been improvement when in fact, there hasn’t.

A college friend of mine was murdered at home while her children were there. Crimea left 4 children behind-her youngest a 7 month old infant. Her family is raising funds to keep the children together. Please contribute if you can.
My sis in law is the ED of a youth led organization. She shuts down her office for a month every year so that staff can focus on political education. There are ways to be intentional about reading and studying.
Good for them! More of this to show these institutions that we’re not playing about our/our students health and well-being. They need to be reminded whose labor allows the institution to function.

“They recognize that women are frequent victims of racist police violence and that cutting short the lives of black youth violates the right of mothers to raise their children in healthy, humane environments.”
It’s WILD to witness people justify exploitation, because they too are exploited. How is that the analysis instead of “we’re all exploited, let’s collectively do something about it?”
Individualism + bourgeoisie class aspirations got people contradicting their claimed values.

Additionally, if your definition of what “counts” at sex begins and ends with penile-vaginal penetration, you are not qualified to be a healthcare provider. This narrative could potentially cause long term adverse effects on an individual’s reproductive health.
The arguement that women’s bodies were created to perpetuate the human species is a biological essentialist arguement. Full stop. How hard is it to say individuals/people instead of women? Abortion isn’t only a ciswoman’s issue - we must change our language.

Kamala Harris: "Women have been given the responsibility to perpetuate the human species. Our bodies were created to do that, and it does not give any other person the right to tell a woman what to do with that body. It is her body. It is her right. It is her decision."
This tweet isn’t an invitation into my mentions, btw. If Kamala is your girl, cool. I don’t support her, and I’m not trying to change your mind or tell you what to do. Please leave me to get my thoughts off. Lolol.

I took “Black Left Feminism” with CBD while @ the decolonial black fem school in Brazil. But not even Black feminists in the U.S. say that BM are the primary antagonists to BW. Decolonial/global south feminists do address feminicidal violence/intra-communal violence, though.
One of the first classes I took at the start of grad school was “Black left feminism” taught by Professor Carole Boyce Davies. It was my first serious engagement with Black feminism. We read Claudia Jones, Nkrumah, Lenin, Wynter, Lugones, Oyewumi and several other global south
Jackson, MS still doesn’t have clean drinking water. As state failures continue to have catastrophic impacts on Black people, we must internalize solidarity as action.
