🔸 "Are we still the party of Beveridge?"
In this article I discuss Labour's abysmal "welfare reforms", such as putting job coaches on mental health wards, and what we must do to stand with the vulnerable at this time.
Only a fucking idiot would support banning ex cons from social housing, because that means they're more likely to reoffend if they're unable to have a fixed address and a job.
Good afternoon everyone!
We're going to play a game, and it's called "Cunk or Coffey" - I'm going to give you all a quote and you've got to vote on whether it's by Cunk or Therese Coffey.
Let's begin!
Transgender people are not a trend, they are not a generational moment, they are not a burden, they are not an abnormality, they are most certainly not a political football - they are people and political parties should treat them as such.
Labour doesn't need to be doing this. Their margins are so good, it is impossible for them to lose.
They are intentionally courting the transphobe vote at the expense of vulnerable people, who society should be helping - not weaponizing.
There is no tribalistic excuse for this.
I find it absolutely appalling how so many on the "left" were able to support Jody McIntyre.
It just goes to show that people are happy to pretend homophobia isn't problematic and wrong just for the sake of pissing in Starmer's cereal.
Saying this as a gay man, it's disturbing.
Actually it's good that Parliament is dissolved during the election, as it prevents MPs from engaging in political activism in Parliament during the election and the passing of legislation which may aim to prejudice voters during the process.
Typical fucking Americans..
I have one fear about claiming PIP and this sums it up: an expectation that I must not live my life to the fullest, that I must prove that I am disabled enough, that I must have no good days, in order to meet the DWP's expectations.
This country treats disabled people like shit.
Are disabled people not allowed to go shopping or on holiday now? It’s not a coincidence these stories are coming out when the DWPs own figures show there was almost 0% pip fraud last year
You threw around homophobic, ableist and racist remarks.
That's not an error of judgement.
You should not have the Labour Party Whip, and frankly you should not have made it past vetting.
@iris_frs
Well I mean he literally just became Prime Minister, the expectation that he could already place substantial pressure on Netanyahu past a phone call is for the birds.
It's not libellous, you fucking midwit.
The man is a divisive twat, the Workers Party is full of antisemites, racists and conspiracy theorists. He has supported many of the world's worst dictators.
You're an idiot for revering this man, who once pretended to be a fucking cat.
Remove the whip. I'm sorry, this has gone way too far, Keir Starmer seriously needs to crackdown on transphobia in Labour or just step aside.
There should never be a hostile environment within a political party, and if you foster it for the sake of votes, you shouldn't lead.

They've not just scraped the bottom of the barrel, they've broken the barrel, through the Earth's crust, straight through the mantle, reached the centre of the Earth - next stop: breaking through the gates of Hades, bringing back Thatcher and stealing their central heating system

It was our position first. They're the ones "siding with us" - we support it out of principle (as we've done for decades), they support it out of expediency and self interest.
Why should we give up on a decades old, core policy just because Reform back it? That's silly guys.
Trigger warning: sexual harassment
I am writing this thread after being subject to sexual harassment, through unsolicited and highly sexual messages, from an individual in the Labour Party in Dorset, who is currently a Youth Officer and aims to gain rank within the party.
Not selecting Eddie Izzard as a candidate was the right call.
Izzard recently said they'd be "happy to campaign from New York via Zoom", and if I were a Brighton and Hove constituent that would lose my vote.
Being an MP is not a side gig, it is public service.
I can't believe I'm having to write this, but I am wrestling with my membership of the Labour party at this time. I have supported the party for most of my life, I've grown up in a Labour family with a proud, Labour voting trade unionist father.
Let me explain why.
Look, we've been pushing for this for decades - if anything Reform is going to be on the same side as us.
Our party's position is one of principle, not political expediency.
Why should we give up on one of our core policies just because they support it too?
Daft.
🗣️“Do they really want to be on the same side of an argument as Farage?” 🫣
@campbellclaret
questions whether the Lib Dems will join Reform in pushing for proportional representation in UK elections.
It seems that Labour are interested in maintaining the Tories' culture war against transgender people.
I did not have high expectations for Wes Streeting on this matter, but holy fuck.
Extremely disappointing, and I'm frankly glad I'm no longer a member of that party.
@GriffithStephen
I'm not a man of faith myself, but I'm from a Christian family and I have found religious people, particularly Christians, can be and very often are some of the most compassionate members of our society. I don't need to be religious to agree with your sentiment 🤍
I'm quite aware of the Labour Right, but I didn't know there were far right Labour members.
Since some of you follow
@Bfletcher249
I thought I'd share some of his views with you.
After all, it's only right we call out islamophobia and racism.
@PeasMinister
Like I'm sorry but if you use neopronouns I'm referring to you by name and with "they/them", I cannot fucking work "xe/xem" into a sentence.
I am 21 years of age and I walk with a cane, I have been walking with it for just under a week now and I can already tell you how little consideration is given, by able bodied people, to those of us who aren't able bodied and do require mobility aids.
I don’t think non-disabled folk realise that suddenly stopping or changing direction in front of someone can set off worsened pain for days and weeks. I wish we were more spatially aware of each other.
So we've got two transphobes in the Department for Health and Social Care, and a homophobe in the Department for Work and Pensions.
Labour stopped being progressive a long time ago.
George Galloway becoming an MP again would destroy the integrity and credibility of the Pro-Palestine campaign within Parliament.
He is an antisemite, he is a Russian and Iranian asset, he is an Assad apologist - he is not a good person.
Just remember that.

My view is they both hinder this country's economic recovery in terms of stagnating growth, and therefore productivity and wage growth, so I hold them in the same level of contempt.
When I left Labour and joined the Lib Dems, someone asked me why I didn't join The Green Party - and there is a simple reason:
The Greens oppose growth and well paid jobs. They oppose development. They lack viable economic policy.
A vote for the Greens is a vote against growth.

@leepfwd
So, which is it - do optics matter or not? Does the public perception of politicians not matter, Chris?
It's okay to admit you've changed your mind, or that you were wrong then or are so now, after all that's how we maintain grown-up debate without descending into ad homs.
Ed Miliband shows his nasty side as he attacks Carla Denyer with lies about the Greens not committed to infrastructure. This is a picture perfect illustration of how centrists hate socialists more than fascists.

Do you know what the "OS" of OSINT stands for? OPEN BLOODY SOURCE - meaning it's open, everyone has access to it, my Nan could use it if she really wanted to.
I find it absolutely appalling how so many on the "left" were able to support Jody McIntyre.

I've seen a lot of people leaving due to Labour's failure to protect transgender people and seeing Rosie Duffield be validated by Shadow Cabinet members is appalling to me.
As a gay man, I can empathize with trans people, because I know how it feels to have your rights debated.

It was an absolutely brilliant interview, and as a working class person who comes from a family of carers I really resonated with her story, I really look forward to what you do next - it'd be brilliant to see you get James Timpson on (if he has some free time)!

Well, Ben, I'd say even you of all people could name and count all the Reform MPs on your fingers, but it would be unfair to put that sort of pressure on you.
We should designate the EDL as a domestic terrorist organisation.
Our communities deserve safety. Our neighbours deserve safety, no matter their ethnicity or religion.
Grieving families shouldn't have to face career racists and thugs.
We must stand up to the far right.
After leaving the Labour party, after much deliberation, I've decided that in two weeks time I will be joining the Liberal Democrats.
Ideologically, I align with them quite a bit, as I am a Liberal Social Democrat and I think they can hold Labour to account effectively.
No, you didn't. Most of your party voted against it.
The Liberal Democrats, namely
@lfeatherstone
, introduced the Bill, as did Ed Davey when it came to repealing Section 28 in 2003.
Your party reignited the culture war against LGBT people. This is so cynical.
Today is a good day for me, on 30th July this year I came public with allegations of sexual harassment against Mark Gavin, formerly known as TheCentreLefty.
Gavin sent me dozens of unsolicited, highly sexual messages, which I found deeply distressing.

So let's assume we abolish the Monarchy, it'll be Labour that does it, so the Tories will stay in power for at least a decade over that. The tax revenue saved from abolition wouldn't make a dent in our nation's problems and it would only be a performative gesture. It's pointless.
