Bad experience with a speciality overnight. Called me in to watch them examine the patient I had referred as if to show me my assessment was wrong. Backfired when the pt had pain on examination as per my referral. This is not the way to interact with colleagues!!

First A&E night shift and I had a patient with a fractured NOF and the reg taught me to do a fascia iliaca nerve block!! Very successful night shift🥳 as if I wasn’t already convinced I wanted to do emergency medicine😅

Emergency medicine ✅ Such a rewarding rotation. I have learnt so much from all the supportive seniors and feel that I have really developed as a clinician. I’ve seen and managed lots of interesting pathology and will miss the team! P.s pls have me back as a fellow next year 😜

Well my time with @SHEFF_AEM is up, 8 months (4 ED, 4 acute med) ✅ Had an amazing time, I’ve learnt so much and really felt my confidence increase with the support of the amazing teams! Hope they’ll have me back as a fellow in August🤞 Next stop… GP land for my final FY2 post

Luckily, I’ve had lots of lovely interactions with specialities in ED and lots of very supportive colleagues within ED so negative encounters like this don’t get to me. Was more shocked they actually did it to be honest!

Passed my second assignment for my PGCert in Clinical Education with a grade A (excellent) this time 🥳🥳 Really enjoyed this module and learning more about the evidence behind different assessment methods and the practicalities of assessment design! 2/3 PG Cert ✅

Today I completed the @ResusCouncilUK BLSi course ready to train a group of 3rd-year student doctors @sheffielduni to go into the local community to teach local businesses BLS as part of my research project 🥳 So excited for the next couple of months!

These 16:30-01:30 are my favourite shift pattern I’ve done - I get a full 8 hours sleep, have the afternoon to go for brunch/gym/meet friends, no traffic driving home. Honestly wish I could just do these shifts exclusively 😅

Today was spent recruiting businesses for my research project. Anecdotally, enthusiasm around Basic Life Support was really encouraging, main barriers from businesses appear to be head office/public liability issues but the interest so far has been really inspiring 🤩

Had the biggest turn out tonight for one of my CPR training sessions for my research project and this post-session feedback has taken me back a bit 🥺 This is the exact reason why I’m so passionate about this project and improving outcomes for out-of-hopsital cardiac arrests 💪

Why is it so hard for this government to increase the amount of training posts for doctors? Rather than suggesting this unsafe 1:3 “solution”. There are doctors who are keen and willing to train who are leaving the NHS because of training bottlenecks!! This is so frustrating 🤦🏻‍♂️

As government passed registration of PAs/AAs by the GMC today one particular clip really intrigued me: @theresecoffey here talks about having 1:3 supervision for AAs 🤔 We have to also remember she was health secretary - she’s seemingly marking her own homework here.

Finals Teaching Series I’ve co-created with @SheffieldMedSoc going excellently so far. 9 specialities down, I did cardiology today (hopefully make @DrDavidWarriner proud haha), over 550 student feedback responses total, overwhelming majority positive, & at least 4 sessions left!

This is SO poor & as a male doctor I think it’s important to recognise our privilege here & challenge these behaviours. For example, I’ve had interactions like “have you seen your med reg, we’ve bleeped HIM” and I’ll always correct the person to challenge their internal bias

My favourite shift in ED yet🤩 saw variety of pathology, was able to manage patients independently with close senior input and experienced true MDT team-working across various disciplines with a trauma pre-alert! Great educational experience - roll on the next resus shift!

Had such a great day examining for the Phase 2b OSCE yesterday. Certainly was surreal becoming an examiner in an exam I had previously done and my nerves were much better on the other side 😅 Great to see some familiar faces too!

Medics - what is the consensus regarding 24 hour furosemide infusions vs. BD regime? When I last did medicine I was told there was no beneficial evidence for 24 hour infusions but have since heard it suggested so was curious if anyone is up-to-date with the literature - thanks 😊

A busy but great week in the NHS. Started with our outgoing fantastic F1 @jackbardwell99 bringing some banging chocolate brownies with salted ganache to the ward round on Wednesday and completed today with news that our old reg @drfmejaz has had his first publication accepted.

This past week… Saw a patient go asystolic on the cardiac monitor, got them back and now seeing them sat out in chair, almost medically fit Led a cardiac arrest for a few minutes whilst awaiting crash team, delivering my first shock and performing my first femoral blood gas

Advance Life Support certified ✅ 92% on final MCQs, very happy. If I wasn’t only an FY1 they would have nominated me for instructor potential - bring on a career in emergency medicine 🥳

You’re the cardiology FY1 on your first week and there’s a patient in complete heart block on an isoprenaline infusion who’s been stable in the morning. You look up at the monitor, see this and rush to the patient… It’s me… I’m the cardiology FY1 😅 (ROSC achieved ✅)
