The Giants don’t really need 5 third baseman. JD had to see that and hadn’t started for a week. I am confident this will end up better for him in long run. Also JD and his agent new the risk of going to arbitration and there was lots of buzz about Chapman far before that.

This is basically tax evasion strategy. California will only be able to collect on $20 M of Ohtani contract.
Shohei Ohtani's $700 million contract calls for him to be paid only $2 million a year for the next 10 seasons, with $680 million deferred until the end of the deal, sources confirm to ESPN.
The CBT hit on the contract is going to be around $46 million, a huge discount for L.A.

Joe Panik was a key member of World Series Giants teams and got DFA’d mid season…and it sucked. If Crawford went out that way it would be 10 times worse. It’s not a great situation for either side now but I think it’s the right decision. Crawford is and always will be a legend

Actually Snell AAV would be $28.6 M (7 yrs) and Rays is $29.2 M (2.5 years). Price is very similar but shorter. I love the Ray deal and would also like Snell but prefer like a 5 yr deal.

Giants 2021 definitely wasn’t a fluke. Giants showed good signs for several months in 2022 and 2023. I remember in 2010 everyone said Giants World Series was a fluke too. Sometimes a adding couple good pieces can bring everything together. I still believe in this team.

I went to one Giants game last year that Renel for some reason was not the PA. At the first moment of someone else’s voice I was a little disappointed and realized how really good Renel is. My game experience wasn’t as good that day.
