For those who are just discovering my Twitter account, Howdy.
I offer the following caveats:
📍 I’ve had this account since 12/07
📍Opinions are mine only
📍I’ve been a Democrat since 2000 (I was 8. Yes, really.)
📍 I am sassy, angry and tired because of all the above
Today in Harris County,
@0liviajulianna
was recognized for meeting a bully with a movement.
When a member of congress tried to put her down, she took the challenge to raise $2 MILLION for abortion access.
She is a force of power and one of the coolest teens I know. ❤️
@0liviajulianna
If it makes you feel any better, I had to explain to my professor that I was going to be on CNN and might be late to class as a result. 🙃
🧵*sigh* Alright folks, it is time to have an honest conversation about South Texas:
I’m going to say something very unpopular. Henry Cuellar and Vicente González were always going to win.
The reason there was such a frenzy to protect their seats is because they’re lazy. 1/10
My name is Jen. I’m one of the
#txlege
staffers defunded by Greg Abbott.
Apparently now I’m supposed to ask for Twitter followers?
I have no clue how that helps pay my salary or give me health insurance come Sept 1, but my colleagues and I are trying to stay in good spirits. 🤷🏽♀️
A reminder to those who might not know: UT did not want to integrate so they asked the
#txlege
to create a HBCU instead, which resulted in the creation of Texas Southern University.
UT, its donors, are very aware of what they’re doing.
@GregAbbott_TX
Planned Parenthood detected cancerous cells in my cervix, had them removed and got me vaccinated. They saved my life when I was uninsured.
Don’t pretend you’re pro-life, Gregory.
As I wait in an absurd checkout line at H-E-B, I can’t help but remember that HEB actually prepped for the winter storm when
@GregAbbott_TX
couldn’t be bothered.
#GroceriesBeforeGregory
Many of the parents who lost children have been at odds with their own community, and we deserve to give them grace and compassion. We also owe it to them to keep fighting. 10/10
@GregAbbott_TX
@HoustonChron
It’s kinda pointless when the majority of the state is making $7.25 an hour and in spite of a historic surplus, you didn’t advocate for helping the working class.
Texas election thread time! 🧵
While I know many of my friends are grieving (and you have every reason to feel this way) I am going to share where my head is and some preliminary things to look at.

In case teachers still think that
@GregAbbott_TX
cares about why educators are leaving the classroom, these are his appointees to the task force to figure out why.

He wants photo ops, not solutions.
Credit to Amy Lambert for this research.
I know it seems easy to insist that the state is going to hell, but please don’t discount all the local candidates who have worked their asses off and are going to be our frontlines of defense against the draconian regimes of statewide Republicans. 7/7
I also want to touch on Uvalde for a second. People are asking how that community voted for Abbott over Beto. What the general public didn’t see was a community who was attacking grieving parents for speaking out. It’s not fair and to put this burden on them is worse. 9/10
Tell this to the University of Texas, Texas Southern University, Texas State and University of Houston where students waited up to 2 hours to vote.
You want to increase youth voter turnout? More polling locations on campus. UT is supposed to have at least 5 but has max 2.
In spite of statewide losses, we kept the line. There is no GOP supermajority in the Texas House. We’re sending the two first Muslims to the

@RepStickland

I've banned TikTok on state issued devices.
I'm also calling for legislation to make the ban permanent and to broaden the ban.
As I detail in my letter and press release, the threat posed by the CCP through TikTok is serious and must be stopped.
These two have been defended by Democrats because “we can’t afford to lose a seat” and as a result, local voters are fed up and want nothing to do with voting.
By defending bad people, you defend bad representation and lose your base. 8/10
A slight shoutout to
@BetoORourke
today. At
#tribfest22
, students at UT came up to him to express concerns about voting on campus. He encouraged them to talk to
@AndyBrownATX
and his team offered personal help.
Today they approved adding more voting machines on campus. 🎉
we have elected a record 5 teachers onto the

As a racist murderer who managed to get off scot free, I know the concept of responsibility and consequence is foreign to you- apparently so is the proper use of grammar and punctuation.
People can wait to get their guns. It’s not infringement. It’s responsibility.
Asian Americans had a good night, not only with their additions to the Texas House but with
@JudgePeterSakai
elected to be the first Japanese American County Judge in Texas history. We are sending a record number of Latinos to Congress. 6/7
The fact that I’ve actually met Big Bird but never had the opportunity to speak with my senator should tell you everything you need to know about Texas Government.
Secondly, we don’t call our bad Democrats for shitty behavior, and this results in not only local distrust for Democrats but the political system as a whole. Case in point? Cuellar who is good to no one but himself and
#SucioLucio
who was out stumping for R’s. (yes, really.) 7/10
Austin is not a progressive city. It is a liberal city with deep issues no one wants to talk about because it means accepting the city is no longer living up to its reputation.
Adding to this, Henry Cuellar is an incredibly sore winner and one who is more concerned about his own ego than public service. I hope for the sake of my hometown he proves me wrong this time but I doubt it. 3/10
Henry and Vicente have never done town halls or any public facing events for their constituents. They also got regularly outraised by Michelle Vallejo, who got the short end of the stick because of these deadweights. 2/10
Locally, ballot initiatives for cannabis decriminalization won with over 60% in 5 traditionally red counties thanks to the amazing work of

Because we lack culturally competent outreach and support for the people who know their communities better than anyone in Austin or D.C. ever could, these communities lose. And then get gaslit and blamed for it. 6/10

For anyone who thinks that Texas is full of Ted Cruzes and Henry Cuellars, it’s not.
It’s home to people like this. Parents who love their kids more than anything and folks who will risk it all to do the right thing.
For starters, the RGV and South Texas has not had Democratically reinforced infrastructure since the Viva Kennedy and Raza Unida Party era. Organizers who have sacrificed and committed to fighting for their communities are ignored. 5/10
@ATXPOA
Considering how backhanded you were in spreading misinformation to get on the ballot, I’m curious as to by how much more you would have lost by actually telling people what you wanted on the ballot.
I’ve lived in the same apartment complex for two years and they just added a processing fee for paying my rent directly from my bank account.
The only way to pay my rent is on the online portal where no matter how I pay it, I have to pay a processing fee.
I recently introduced the End Junk Fees for Renters Act, which would stop landlords from profiteering off their tenants with endless, egregious fees!
I want to hear from YOU: What’s a

you’ve faced as a renter?

Let me be clear on a grim reminder: this abortion legislation does not eliminate abortion. It just makes abortion care out of reach for those who cannot afford it.
Those who are wealthy and affluent will always be able to find it.
When we look at the local level races, the damage is there. We lost a state House seat in the RGV and a wealthy, anointed heir to replace a useless state senator had a tight election. But why? 4/10
On the first day of school for Uvalde students,
@GregAbbott_TX
is at yet another private fundraiser.
Meanwhile,
@BetoORourke
is showing solidarity with Uvalde, talking about how we can ensure this doesn’t happen again and is even seen wearing maroon.
Hi, just want to point out that
@CollierForTexas
has been to Laredo many times and is an active presence in south Texas. He’s down here often and never misses a chance to be here.
I know folks were asking about Mike but I know first hand, he’s an OG when it comes to South TX.

grills Republican Steve Toth about his terrible civics bill.

For the second time in my life, I’ve had to go into lockdown for a shooting.
I was working today at the Barton Creek Mall when I heard gunshots.
I’m thankful to be safe (minus major anxiety and a panic attack I will have to nurse later) but angry all over again. 1/
@GregAbbott_TX
Encouraging acts of violence is different than conservative speech, Gregory.
Even you must understand that as someone who knows when to stay awfully quiet when your party has the blood of a domestic terrorism act on their hands.
Fuck the guy who thought it was a great idea to use DPS troopers in Austin. I just drove home from Bouldin Creek where not a patrol car was in sight.
As soon as I crossed into E Oltorf, there was (no joke) a patrol car every 500 feet. 😒

I’m a few blocks out of his district but D9 is where I’ve lived most of my time in Austin. Zo would be an incredible addition to the Dais.

The resolution passed unanimously and TDP did good on their word to make sure that our interns were compensated 1/5
Democrats in Michigan have passed a law to eliminate means testing for SNAP.
Governor Gretchen Whitmer is expected to sign the bill, which would end the use of a family’s assets to determine eligibility and eliminate a barrier for low-income families seeking healthy food.
As a born and raised south Texan, I feel like I need to say this because people keep trying to make the border this scary place it’s not.
Fam, if your idea of authentic tortillas is Walmart, you have no business trying to call the border a war zone.
Today, I was invited to speak to students in MA wanting to learn about the southern political landscape. I explained how TX elections are done.
A student asked me “why is a handgun license an acceptable ID to vote but a student ID isn’t?”
I couldn’t answer. Your move,

HI I’M A NATIVE SOUTH TEXAN. Before anyone tries to pin anything on anyone, ask yourself “ Have I spent more than 72 hours of my life in south TX?”
“Have I done anything besides guilt Latinos?”
For a side that’s “pro-life”, it’s amazing how many conservative elected officials are okay with the power potentially going out in the hottest summer on record WHICH WILL KILL PEOPLE.

For the record, Governor. 7th and 35 has had a homeless population prior to the decriminalization of homelessness.
If you want to offer a solution towards ending homelessness, we can raise the minimum wage, expand Medicaid in Texas and create an affordable way to live.
Y’know, it’s one thing for a Texas Democrat to side with the GOP on the sensationalized narrative about the border. It’s another when 1) the Dem is running for US Senate and 2) to date he hasn’t made a visit to the community he just backstabbed.

Remember those high taxes, burdensome regulations, & socialistic agenda advanced in CA?
We don't believe in that.
We believe in less government & more individual freedom.
