We built a platform to run containers across Cloudflare’s network. It’s different. It’s schedules workloads globally — you don’t deal with regions. It fits with Anycast (of course). And we're integrating it with Workers and Durable Objects — use the right tool for the job, every

The problem with the WSB fiasco is not that similar groups of people will repeat this organically. It’s that it’s shown the world that the disinformation vulnerability is 100x larger financially than many realized, and provided a playbook to exploit it.

JavaScript frameworks provide their own Node.js local dev servers. The Workers runtime provides built-in APIs to D1, R2, KV and more. You just want local dev to work like prod. We figured it out — with framework maintainers help. Here's how we did it:

When you deploy a serverless function, you should only be charged for time spent actually doing work. The status quo of GB-s based pricing has charged you for time spent waiting, while your application sits idle. We're fixing that.

We are working on (couldn't quite make it for this week) a change where when you call another Worker via a service binding, this won't be billed as a request. @DarwinBondGraha “Subsidizing” is editorializing. Redevelopment financing like this is like issuing a bond that converts as future tax revenue far in excess of cost. It is the city betting on itself. Fine to critique whether the bet is worth the risk (will ⚾️ be popular?), but it’s not a subsidy.

Every PM on our team is an engineer. I report to an engineer. She reports to an engineer. We pride ourselves on deeply understanding not just what we build but how it's built, and what that architecture unlocks in the long-term.

Browsertech Digest from @drifting_corp has the highest signal to noise ratio of any newsletter I subscribe to. Gets right to the point, and every time I learn about a new interesting project that's pushing the bounds.

0 kWh net grid use today during peak. 100% electric house. Pre-cooling, decent insulation, a battery, a bit of solar and some trees. Lot of pieces, house was all gas when we bought it, but entirely possible to be net zero when it matters during peak demand, even in an old house.

This is why we bet on open standards at Cloudflare. Make a bigger pie rather than fighting over the same tiny slice. Still so much room on the Internet for more people to win together.

The point of a bike lane is to create *physical* barriers so that even a drunk driver couldn’t kill someone on a bike. Fife treating this death as inevitable says a lot about her views on pedestrian and bike safety.

@ptraughber @teresahammerl @LibbySchaaf @rrinoak I was out last night and the celebratory energy combined with alcohol and people were wilin out about the Warriors win. How would a bike lane saved this life if some people were acting recklessly? I am mortified about this death and have been working

If you have tried an NPM package on Workers before and hit a wall — you should try again 😉✅

We’ve made it way, way easier to use the Node.js packages you know and love when building on Workers by dramatically expanding our Node.js API compatibility. This is a big part of our effort to make shipping applications with Workers a no brainer!

This is the bar for scale and speed that is permanently embedded in the back of my head. I think about it almost every time release process, test times, or multiple services come up. It's the bar that anything serverless — which is all too often "micro-everything" — has to clear.

As people seem interested here are some more fun numbers from our @rails app: - we deployed the app 46 times today (well, 46 PRs merged but some shipments likely ended up being deployed together) - test runs take 5 mins (at a concurrency of 500) - we max out just over 1M SQL

@tim_mulshine Starting to worry that while SF turns the corner and ousts incompetent leaders, Oakland city politics are getting worse and inheriting the SF BOS politics. This is the kind of thing that I associate with SF.

If Kevin de Leon is elected mayor, the Bay and LA will have diverged on housing issues. Despite all our tiny annoying NIMBY cities, the powerful cities in the Bay all have pro-housing leaders, and LA will have an Eastside anti-housing mayor + the politics of the Westside.

I hate to inform you that @kdeleon is an imbecile on housing issues which you would think would disqualify him from being mayor of the second largest city in the country.

Earlier this year I talked to about a dozen prefab ADU companies. Abodu was the clear winner — they were confident, fast and had a plan for everything. We decided to do some other work on our house first, but they’re my first call when we’re ready. Category winner in the Bay.

As you might know, I’ve spent six years looking at housing affordability in California. I’m excited to announce @initialized ’s investment in Abodu:

Corollary: we should make domestic migration easier (by building housing to lower rent, improving safety net, encouraging risk taking) so that everyone can move around and find a place they love. There is nothing more insufferable than a city everyone lives in but complains about

For years our customers asked us nearly every week how we built the tours in our own new customer onboarding. Today we’re taking that early idea and launching a new product that’s orders of magnitude more powerful, and is deeply integrated with all of Intercom.
