IPSA has not given MPs a 4.1% pay rise. We have consulted on whether or not to continue to benchmark MPs' pay against public sector pay, as we have since 2015, given the current economic circumstances. No decision has been made, but in the meantime their pay remains unchanged.
MPs are not able to claim back the cost of food or drink in Westminster, or their constituencies. The only exception is if an MP is on Parliamentary business staying outside London or their constituency. In those circumstances they can claim a maximum of £25 for each night away.
For MPs who want to use their IPSA funded accommodation to provide shelter for refugees under the ‘Homes for Ukraine’ scheme, our position with MPs is clear. There is nothing in our rules that would prevent Members of Parliament from taking part.
Following the recent consultation on periodic adjustments to MPs’ pay, for the next financial year MPs’ pay will remain unchanged. Details can be found here:
The
@HouseofCommons
will be sitting on a Saturday for the first time since 1982. IPSA will cover accommodation and travel costs for MPs in line with the usual rules.

As employers, it is entirely appropriate that MPs should, if they see fit, reward their staff with a modest gathering at Christmas. We are clear that alcohol is not included, that any event must represent value for money and is subject to publication for transparency.

argues that a parliamentary regulators’ role is to build trust in politics, as it is fundamental to democracy. Democracy suffers when that trust is low. Institutions must be trustworthy.
