Honestly the real problem is that there **aren’t** any biomedical researchers who think we should dismantle the NIH. I’m not saying we should, but a major reason it sucks in so many ways is that it faces extremely limited criticism, let alone existential risk.

@AdrianoAguzzi @Raf_Nic if the primary sales pitch is selflessness & nobility rather than a real world draw to the career path, i don't know why ppl are confused that many trainees choose to leave. that's not “acadoomia”, that's just being out of touch with what most people want out of their careers 🤷🏻♂️

@JustinPerryPhD @jonykipnis if anything, hiring committees and mentors should make these guidelines clear MUCH sooner so those of us with no hope at such funding can cut bait faster and find greener pastures and enjoy our 30s instead of wasting time 🫠

Polling the science Twitterverse: is there a non-absorbable dye alternative to Carmine Red for measuring whole gut transit? Red is not the ideal color for a visual tracing dye when so many perturbations to the intestine cause bleeding. All thoughts/recommendations welcome!
