during awards season i start talking like a football fan… this is our year… it’s all rigged… it all comes down to who wants it more… this is the worst performance of the season…
one brisk evening last month, i was on a walk in the west village and i ran into him with two massive bags of groceries in his arms, we walked together for 2 blocks and he asked me about my day and told me I was a lovely young woman :)
leonard cohen was so girl coded for writing such a painfully intimate song like chelsea hotel no. 2 and then ending it with the line “that’s all, i don’t think of you that often”
whenever men defend graphic depictions of sexual assault or objectification of women in art with the notion that “art should be uncomfortable” i always wonder uncomfortable for who? like are you actually uncomfortable?
hate when i mention julia fox and someone says “you only know her bc she dated kanye” no, YOU only know her bc she dated kanye, I’M a cinephile from nyc
love that whenever spike jonze and sofia coppola want to have a conversation they just have scarlett johansson act out what they want to say so they don’t have to speak to each other directly
@melodiamorenita
true! weird limbo where you can do regular things unbothered but then later realize you were indirectly bothered bc someone snapped a pic
debates concerning the necessity of shein & other fast fashion retailers would end if more people understood the importance of cultivating a personal style & freed themselves from the curse of overconsumption
…and even 40 minutes into the film when it became clear that there would be no cannibalism i was still scared and convinced they were going to eat nicholas hoult…
remember the unmade bed? or the limousines waiting in the street? or when you said you preferred handsome men but for me you would make an exception? haha me neither 🤪
so many “love letters to cinema,” not enough “love letters to my wife whom i love dearly and want to impress” like mike mills’ 20th century women (2016)
when you haven’t gotten the chance to reduce dehumanize women to vessels of male service in a minute so you have to find a 5 year old meme to get that catharsis
Amistad, 12 Years a Slave, Django, were “slave movies.”
Notice anything about them?
They were all made by white people.
And in these movies, slavery actually DEFINED the black characters. For instance, Django is essentially a superhero movie. But What was his superpower?
The reason "Barbie" doesn't get nearly enough love from certain parts of the Academy is because it centers narrative tension + themes that aren't understood or appreciated by straight men. What Greta Gerwig accomplished is deeply undervalued, yet nothing less than extraordinary.
like it’s on sight for the next person who makes a movie length joke… it’s gauche, it’s unfunny, and it shows a fundamental misunderstanding of and disregard for art… sorry
@writtenbyirene
like i don’t want to make any bad faith assumptions…but it’s like are you even making any distinction in your brain b/w a rape scene and a sex scene…
I love women. I AM a woman. Our voices are higher than men’s voices. Women's voices can get into the annoying area if it gets too high. If you’re doing a podcast, consider lowering your pitch a tad. If you think I’m being sexist about this then I don’t know what to do with you.
