Why I Never Send Crypto From My Main Wallet. ↓ In Web3, transparency, privacy, and security are everything. The blockchain is designed to operate without KYC or doxxing, yet ironically, your biggest privacy risk isn’t random hackers; it’s the people closest to you. If you’ve ever transacted with a friend in Web3, they now have access to your wallet address. That means, with just a few clicks, they can check your entire transaction history and balance. This isn’t about distrusting your friends; it’s about understanding that information, once known, spreads. The Real Threat❔ When People Start Connecting the Dots → If someone you know in real life (IRL) realizes you have significant holdings, they may not act on it immediately, but that knowledge is there. People can change. → Even good people can be influenced by pressure, desperation, or manipulation; things they can’t always control. Targeted Attacks → I’ve seen cases where someone was kidnapped, and the attackers said, “Forget his bank account, we know his wallet addy and he has large crypto holdings.” → I’ve seen cases where individuals using a public .eth or similar crypto domain on their main wallet became prime targets for hackers. Once their holdings were exposed, attackers actively strategized ways to scam, hack, or exploit them. If your bag is valuable and they can’t get to you directly, they’ll take the easiest route, targeting someone in your circle. A weaker link, like a trusted friend, can be compromised first. Attackers may hack their account, impersonate them, and set traps designed specifically for you. No matter the situation, it’s always safer to have a wallet with limited funds linked to your identity rather than one holding your life savings. You may not see it as a risk now, but all it takes is one bad actor connecting the dots for it to become a problem. Blockchain Isn’t the problem; Just devise smarter ways to use it For example: If you work for a crypto company, your salary is likely paid to a specific wallet. Let’s call this your main wallet, which is tied to your identity but known only to the company. For everyday transactions like sending crypto to a friend, airdrops, payments, swaps, e.t.c. It's smart to use a separate wallet to maintain privacy and security. Here’s how to do it → Create a spare wallet (completely separate from your main one). → To fund the spare wallet, first send your crypto to a centralized exchange (CEX) like Binance, Bybit, or Coinbase. → From the CEX, withdraw funds to your spare wallet. → Use the spare wallet for all transactions instead of your main wallet. Note: When withdrawing from your spare wallet, follow the same process. Send to the CEX first, then to your main wallet. Why This Works → If someone checks the wallet you sent crypto from, they’ll only see a small balance. → If they try to trace it, they’ll only see a CEX deposit, not your real addy with your mainholdings. → Even if they attempt to connect wallets, the link to your main bag is broken. It’s Not About Fear, It’s about some level of protection This isn’t paranoia. This is playing the game smart. → The less people know about your real holdings, the less of a target you become. → It’s not about hiding, it’s about controlling what others can see/attach to you. → Web3 is transparent by design, so your security in terms of doxxing your main addy depends on how you move. Protect your privacy. Protect your funds. Move smart. Let me know if this was helpful or if you have your own security tips to share!
