We go again!
Insanely excited about Moonshot and how it’s growing this year.
We have learning sessions for people just entering tech, technical workshops for developers and product managers, industry engagement sessions for c-level execs, first-time founder masterclasses…

The level of intimidation, violence, propaganda & misinformation pushed at the Nigerian populace over the last 48 hours is truly amazing
Peaceful protesters asked the govt to stop killing them and instead of negotiating, Nigeria chose to go to war against its citizens
#EndSARS
This month,
@TechCabal
crossed a million readers in a single month, an important milestone. I’m incredibly proud of our editorial team, led by Olumuyiwa Olowogboyega and of everyone who’s worked so hard
@InsideTheCabal
to make this happen. Now we can really start work…
These protests were never about regime change, but after last night and as Nigeria burns, the continued silence from the Abuja indicates that there is no one at the helm. Everyone associated with this regime should resign in shame and let competent people take charge.
#EndSARS
We don't shame public officials enough. We need to go back to throwing tomatoes at people onstage. Every time you see these people, throw a tomato at them.
If we stone them tomato enough times, they'll learn shame.
It saddens me how many Nigerians accept the country as it is and don’t want more, can’t imagine what more looks like and will reject it when it’s offered. Dream bigger people. This is far from what this place can and should look like.
Local government elections may seem like small things but they really are the foundation of governance. If you’re in Lagos, go out now and vote! Nigeria will not change with you lamenting in your room. Let’s take this nation back.

I really love excellence in execution, whether it’s editorial content, a nightlife experience or essential infrastructure. We need so much more commitment to this principle.
The obscene amount of energy wasted finding workarounds though, instead of driving forward and building Nee things. May accidentally discover great things but imagine how much progress we could make if we weren’t always playing whack-a-mole with incompetent regulators.
Most important tech article I’ve read in a long time. Lots of fascinating ideas in this scholarly writeup about why tech startups, both local and global, fail in Africa.

Survived another one! Board is excited about our plans. I'm excited about our plans and the extra ginger they just gave us. Let's get it!

10 years of telling Africa's tech story. Thanks and congrats to everyone who has come through the doors of
@TechCabal
, and helped us tell incredible stories that matter, and to the incredible builders all over the continent who've given us so much to write about. To the moon yo!
10 years ago,
@MrBankole
started TechCabal out of his quest to bring to light the work young Nigerians were building in the tech ecosystem. A decade later, we are tracking tech changes in Africa’s bustling tech ecosystem.
Happy 10th birthday to us

Really happy to see work progressing on the Nigeria Startup Bill. It’s a pivotal bill and moment for tech startups in Nigeria and
@TechCabal
is happy to be able to help push for the best possible bill. This morning, we're discussing what’s been done so far and what's next.
Amazing work by
@FuadXIV
and the
@StartArchiving
team! Can't tell you how exciting it is to see this live. I love the ambition and historical awareness of this project. Might seem small now, but this is immense and you should definitely be supporting it.
I love all these people who insist on litigating Jonathan versus Buhari on Twitter without end. Not sure why you’re defending two F9 students, debating whether one got 31% or the other got 32%. They’re both failures. Let’s do better as a nation.
Logged into Yahoo mail for the first time in a while and they've deleted over a decade's worth of emails and photos. I suspect I will one day log into Dropbox or Gmail (which I still use) and the same will have happened. Archive your stuff somewhere you control regularly. Wild.

Honored by this! Beyond proud of the excellent work the
@TechCabal
team does. 10 years of telling the most important stories about the business, players and impact of technology in Africa; and still full of young, hungry and ambitious people looking to do even better work.
Congratulations to

Tech Cabal tells the stories of C-Suite executives, product designers, tech policy champions and other players in the digital economy as the African tech space continue to evolve.
Was once in a meeting with a Reckitt Beckinser exec, and when we told him Zikoko’s traffic, he threw us out of the office. I think that was 2018. Good times…
"You are a rounding error."
I will never forget when a big tech executive said this to me as I was building

I was a little petty with it... as I was telling

on the Best of Both Worlds podcast. But hey, look who got the last laugh 😂
To be clear, and for anyone that is confused. The protesters are at home. When the bullets started flying, those protests ended. Anything happening on the streets right now is part of a play being acted by a different set of players with an entirely different script.

God grant me one hundredth of the chutzpah it takes to fly to a continent I’ve never been and attempt to implement projects that affect millions of people with six months of research and other people’s money, but also the wisdom to never fucking attempt this. 🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️
Excited to have

@TechCabal
. We're looking for someone with a keen interest in the tech space, an analytical mind and sound writing and editorial chops. You'll be working with a great team doing ambitious work
Okay let's go unicorn hunting.
Dear world. We're looking for a brilliant, thoughtful, curious and ambitious Editor-In-Chief to drive the evolution of
@TechCabal
and take it to the next level.
Are you that somebody? If not, do you know who they are?
@TheCharlesIsidi
Done it & would do it again. Lots of great people leave for varying reasons and sometimes they find their way back because your co. is in the right place for them again, or they've exhausted their growth options elsewhere. I default assume I'll meet every employee again in front.

Not everyone takes the Nigerian government all the way to the Supreme Court and wins, but
@youthparty_ng
did that! Justice delayed is definitely justice denied as the party has faced years of deliberate frustration. But one battle is won and the war continues. Congratulations!

You did a beast of a job with these Toheeb. Took the template and ran with it, telling a range heartbreaking, inspiring, cautionary and overall mind-bending stories. Some of your stories even changed people’s lives. Well done chief. I trust you’ll kill whatever comes next. 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾

This app gets worse everyday. WhatsApp just got immeasurably worse with this hamfisted AI assistant that no one asked for. Feels like consumer tech is mostly racing in the wrong direction at the moment.
This is one of the most troubling aspects of the media landscape we’re building today for me. If the only credible news is beyond the reach of most people to pay for (or has to be bargained against both needs and luxuries), then you end up with an uninformed populace. No bueno

Nothing illustrates the cruelty, cynicism, ineptitude and sheer heartlessness of the current administration more than this Naira exchange debacle. The level of suffering they’ve carelessly imposed is beyond staggering. Vote wisely people. We really can’t continue like this.
This is state sponsored harassment, an extension of the same issues under

@toketemu
Wishing you tons of success in everything you do, and looking forward to finishing out one more amazing project together at least.
Last Monday was my final day as Senior Editor
@zikokomag
. Its been 2.2 years of sheer insanity and I loved every day of it. I’m taking some time for myself, to do life changing things like drink a lot of wine and start a herb garden. I’m still writing but mostly as a freelancer.
As an aside, I’ve now seen
@iamtomiwa
’s work in 2 different places and all I’ll say is this - if he asks you to fund a media project of his, just bring out your chequebook and give him what he needs. That’s all for now

Apparently I gained 20lbs (~9kg) last year. All gym and no running did that. So this year I plan to be on the road more regularly. I might show up for some races, but I'm not up for marathon training yet. So mid-distances (15/20km), lots more gym and yoga and cutting out sugar.
I never accept Gen Z slander. I’m endlessly impressed by their relentlessness and drive for more for themselves. I wish them a country that fights as hard for them.

Particularly excited that In the middle of a global pandemic and great uncertainty about the media generally,

These are all fair points, and Abuja is a definitely a town of a thousand people playing a million games. A year ago, I'd have agreed with you that the tech industry was completely naive in its engagement, but feels to me like there's been progress since then.
