People assume these people getting fired are incompetent. That is not true, there are a lot of high performers being let go. Eventually all these companies will rehire the other companies layoffs. Just a giant reshuffle.

Actually I do own a business and have successfully managed 100 of employees, and my teams have literally generated billions in revenue. In an ideal world yes, but in corporate America that is not what happens. The process is imperfect and there's always politics.

Today I received amazing news. My cancer is not traceable. This is huge news (at least to me) and while the Twitter chaos still plagues my mind. This brings perspective. I'm happy to be healthy and in full faculty.

Focus less on reducing tax liability and more on gaining compounded interest on your retirement money. A retirement account can do both, but keep cash in the side for emergencies as taking cash out a retirement account before 55 comes at a huge cost.

I remember commuting 3hrs a day, for almost 12yrs+, never ever again. Those 3hrs returned, allowed me to live a much healthier lifestyle, and destroy this cancer that was eating away at me.

I've worked in 6+ multinationals tech companies and I've had to conduct layoffs b4 and have for my first time been laid off in the Twitter chaos and trust me companies let go of many great performers. its a numbers game. It's layoff 20 people not lay off just the low performers.

In a small business yes it's easier to stick to the ideal but even then there's often politics &nepotism that keeps less productive employees around, and at the scale of 10k+ employees is a clusterf&$. Good and bad employees will be on both sides of the decision.

Twitter did need to clean house. It was already in the process of a 20% workforce reduction before Elon took over. So we agree. But I can promise you that most of the best performers jumped shipped bc they were easily employable elsewhere at more profitable less chaotic places.

This whole article is a joke, and who are these engineers acting like everything in codebase is now a surprise to them. Everyone is so afraid to get fired that the default answer is blame all issues on the laid off folks and over exaggerate to buy time to find another job.

You can't blame the employees when Google built that incentive model in their heads. If you make us more money, you get more fun join Google. Google still making money but they are reducing the 'fun'. Employees have a right to question the incentive model change.

Yes but it's a human process which is imperfect. So just like what happened in 2008-2010, a great reshuffling will happen & many of these laid-off employees will go to create the next billion dollar business. It's the same every time. Few will leave tech they will just migrate.

1/ So Ive decided to start a new project & begin building homes in Nigeria. Starting with a plot bought about a decade ago in Lekki. Starting small with 3 homes on this plot with one directly going to my father and the other two covering the cost of his retirement home.

Taxe aresupposed to be your dues for utilizing the infrastructure that allows you to make money: roads, security, laws, etc. I am okay with taxes, but they are misused and not properly adjusted for the cost of living. When I have to drive thru a minefield of potholes I get upset.

We experiment with charging businesses, while at Meta, and the results were not positive. It proved more lucrative to allow them on the platform free and convert them to advertisers. Also businesses brought more consumers to the platform resulting in a sig boost to actives.

Yesterday, The National Labor Relations Board ruled that employers can no longer require their people to be quiet (i.e. sign non-disparagement clauses) as part of their severance agreements! That means no more forfeiting ur rights for separation compensation.

Looks like another round of layoffs at Twitter this Friday. Employees were notified by losing internal access, with an email following from HR later in the day. They were offered 2 months (warn) + 1 month severance, similar to prior layoffs. 🫡
