Oh fuck. Solana Foundation published beta cluster restart instructions that include instructions to block NFT minting bots manually at the L1 layer. ๐ซฃ. "Don't forget, only censor the network until it looks steady again so we can start saving face with an online network."
Catastrophically terrible sign for the entire ecosystem that a validator would suggest blocking certain types of transactions. Why? Beyond the fact that playing whack-a-mole won't work, it sets precedents around censorship at L1. I hope for a strong rebuke from Solana leaders.

I worked at the EF from 2016-2021. During that time I was in roles such as devops co-lead, community lead, orgsec lead, Devcon 2-4 co-lead, operations, EIP editor, incident response, and protocol coordination. I have a lot of familiarity with how the EF handled budget and.

EF has a budget of ~$100m per year, which is largely made up of grants and salaries, and some of the recipients are only able to accept in fiat. Bad take. I don't want Ethereum to only be used by wealthy people and honestly that's how it seems right now. I'd love for non-whale trading on Ethereum, but we need to move much of our activity to L2s. It's stupid to say our ecosystem is vibrant based on dollar amounts.
Million dollar NFTs only live on ETH, because all the whales are on ETH. So much of the NFT activity on other chains are non-whale trading looking for flips and cheap fees. This speaks volumes to me on whatโs a more vibrant ecosystem.

2/ Both attacks were DoS attacks meant to halt block production, so that is similar. The big difference is that in Ethereum blocks never stopped producing during the attacks because of our multi-client design decisions. Solana is literally having to do a network restart.

Has @zhusu even talked to an Eth core dev?. Had we stuck with the hodge podge of ideas in Eth1x, we would be much further away from scaling or helping users. I've ran multiple core dev meetings where investor arguments were rejected in favor of users/sustainability of Ethereum.
Want to soften this and say abandon is the wrong word. Was heat of the moment. I'm sorry. There are great teams working on scaling Eth on L2. Would've preferred to see eth1x roadmap. Also would've preferred focusing on users rather than holders welfare in upgrades.
