My heart aches for Brody Malone right now. He is one of the top gymnasts in the world and is from my area. Just so unfortunate this morning you have to hope he has one more shot in L.A. in 2028. This was he trained for, for 3 years, to get a shot at a medal. It's a shame.
Rublev, the No. 6 seed at the Open. is playing on basically an auxiliary court. I have been saying for a long time the USTA needs to shocase Americans but that looks like they have n axe to grind
One last word about ETSU, I don't think anyone is going to forget this run they had. I expect Savage to load up in the portal and this team is going to be one of the favorites to win the SoCon next year.
ETSU head coach Brooks Savage when talking about his squad. "This teams has all the making of a championship team. They are bigger, faster, stronger and more experienced." ......You know after seeing that SoCon poll they are going to be hungry to prove people wrong.
These broadcasters on this East Carolina-ETSU game have been very complimentary of the Bucs. Most of the guys don't even know how to say the name of the school correctly.
Also caught up with Bo Hodges, who played at ETSU and Butler. Said his blood bleeds blue and gold and if ETSU played Butler he would pull for ETSU. He's going to get put to the test this season.
Now that I have heard the whole story, I wholeheartedly apologize to
@CoachTreLamb9
for criticizing him for playing. Apparently The Citadel made the decision. Tre is doing a great job here in Johnson City in a month has totally turned around ETSU football.
@BE_GoldenEagle
I have been really impressed with them during the time Kolek has been out. I did a co-Coach of the Year with Hurley and Holloway but let's face it, Shaka is the best coach in this conference.
Wow what a day of basketball, especially tonight at Freedom Hall. That was a program changing win for ETSU. They needed that and boy did they begin Thanksgiving in the right way.
ETSU up 44-35 at halftime over East Carolina, not covering this game because my tennis duties but I am watching. Tremendous first half by the Bucs. This would probably the biggest non-conference win for the Bucs since LSU four years ago.
Don't think many people had this on their bingo card. I think we are going to have to start considering the Bucs a legitimate contender in the SoCon. Wins over upper division Atlantic 10 and American Teams is pretty impressive.
As many of you know I am a Johnson City native and my family was ETSU season ticket holders for years. As a journalist I put that aside and cover the league fairly. But you have to give credit where it is due. Last night was all about the Bucs. Phenomenal comeback for the ages.
Mentioned this in my story, but if the Bucs defeat Kansas City, they will be guaranteed a winning non-conference season. Considering where this program was a year ago at this time, that is a great accomplishment.
@BrooksSavage
is doing a great job for the Bucs.
My opinions of watching ETSU this morning. I don't put stock into intersquad scrimmages, but I see the hype in Johnson City.
@Ice_Buggs1
is the real deal folks. I can't wait for that ETSU-Chattanooga game to see those backcourts.
I know I am the one that is not a fan of fall tennis, but I don't see the benefit of playing the Asia Swing if you are hurt or sick. I honestly would rest up and come back strong for Australia.
Was just telling someone on a direct message, I can't imagine what
@EmmaRaducanu
goes through on a daily basis with the British Press and having to be asked the ridiculous questions about stuff not related to tennis. She handles everything so well.
ETSU beats Mercer tonight. Season sweep for the Bucs. Honestly, I have to cover them differently now that I am focusing on the entire
@SoConSports
but I want to say I appreciate ETSU Twitter and you have my heart. ❤🏀
Mercer 84, The Citadel 76 Final David Thomas with a career high 27 points. Mercer plays top seed top seed Samford tomorrow at 12 noon. They won't be scared.
Huge news out of Johnson City. Passed up on some Power 5 programs and Memphis to come to ETSU. They are going to have some fun at Freedom Hall this winter.
North Texas transfer guard John Buggs III has received interest from the following programs:
Texas A&M
Memphis
West Virginia
St John’s
Utah State
South Florida
Saint Louis
East Carolina
UTSA
Tulane
Drake
ETSU

According to
@ETSU_Buckeye
, the Bucs were originally supposed to play Delaware tonight but they backed out. Most likely Tusculum filled the void. Very admirable of the Pioneers to do that. They already have a win over the 8th ranked D2 team in the country in UNC-Pembroke
NEWS: Furman transfer guard Marcus Foster has committed to Xavier, he tells
@On3sports
.
The 6-4 senior says he chose the Musketeers over Indiana and Cal. Averaged 17 points and 7.5 rebounds per game this season.
Story:
11 blocks for Jadyn Parker through 5 games. Barring any injuries/time away, I have a feeling he will be in the season shot block records. 10th place is Isiah Brown at 49.
I know Shaka will take heat for this loss, but Marquette is a special program that is doing things by the book and not relying on the portal. It is a throwback program. I enjoyed covering them this year.
The Samford Bulldogs are going dancing!
Samford wins their first ever Southern Conference tournament title and advances to their first NCAA tournament since 2000!
I will go ahead and let the cat out. Woolbright will be the

SoCon Player of the Year in next week's SoCon Tournament Preview. Don't give me they didn't win the league, he almost won the triple crown for Points, Rebounds and assists. This is an easy decision.
So, I have lost my wallet. The little money I have is gone. This week I have been hacked and lost my wallet. Mom wanted me to start carrying cash and this is why I didn't.
@madeformarch
I said earlier that today along with Feast Week, are the best days of the college basketball season. I think tomorrow is good, but not quite like today
@ETSUHoopsNation
This game would have been a massacre a month ago. Brooks is ahead of the game on the rebuild. The SoCon media (Me excluded) are not really talking about ETSU right now but this is a very scary team heading into SoCon play.
I know this is against a D2 school but this is a great start for the Bucs. Recent ETSU teams have struggled against D2 teams. Host King Monday at Freedom Hall.
The Bucketneers head coach is
@patgood00
, a Johnson City are product who played for Appalachian State, ETSU and Winthrop. Scored 17 points in 4 minutes in a win against Western Carolina during that epic season in 2020 for ETSU.
Switching gears somewhat for a few days, doing research on the TBT and the "Bucketneers" for a story this week. The TBT is a college-based basketball tournament from former college players.
There has been a lot of debate about Putintseva and whether her antics are good for the sport. I think tennis needs a little personality especially on the women's side. Yes, I do like Rybakina so I am contradicting myself, but I love the feisty characters as well. She is needed.
Up next on Court 1 one of my favorites
@PutintsevaYulia
against world No. 1
@iga_swiatek
. I love watching Putintseva trying to stay neutral on this one but it will be hard.
Sander Gillé & Joran Vliegen win their 1st Masters 1000 title!
The Belgian duo beat Melo/Zverev 5-7, 6-3, 10-5 for their eighth 🏆 together.

These are retirements tournaments of The Big 4 so far. It feels right that at the end of their careers, they finally have a team next to them, when for 2 decades they have fought in endless brutal 1-on-1 battles in a tough as nails individual sport
This is a total slap toward Muchova. Yes, the American casuals will not be interested, but as far as tennis wise this is a pretty darn good final. We have an American in the men's final I think ESPN/ABC will be happy with that.
Sorry for the lack of updates I have discovered a new way of watching tennis the
@QualityShot1
tennis chat. Made some new friends today. It's fun chatting with people who share your interests. And it is all respectful
I know Iowa is going to win this game but you really have to take your hats off to Holy Cross they have thrown the kitchen sink at Clark. Really admirable effort.
I don’t know the voting culture in the UK quite as well, but I do know that any American superstar athlete would get utterly dragggggged for an answer like this.
@TennisUpdates23
Maybe I am used to the status quo, but I am curious how this new calendar is going to take shape. I am all for more 500s on the ATP Tour, Without getting into politics, I would rather the new Masters go to Brisbane, Sydney or Halle.
@T3Bracketology
@SamfordMBB
Everybody keeps arguing with me about them and how even the SoCon is, I think they are far and away the class of the SoCon.
Pegula wins 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 over Badosa. Great fight by Jess when it looked like Badosa was in control. Pegula one win away from Canada/Cincy double. I honestly thought she was one of the last players who could accomplish that so good for her. Should be a great final with Sabalenka
Here is another question? Since the US Open got the roof installed in the mid 2010s, it seems like over half the women's finals have been under the roof. Serena-Osaka and Coco-Sabalenka two of the memorable ones I can remember.
@TennisUpdates24
UCONN and Texas will be fun because even though UCONN doesn't seem to be vintage UCONN this year, I still believe Paige Bueckers is the most complete player in the country, even over Clark. She doesn't shoot every time she gets the ball.
Will be talking a lot about Trey Bonham and Honor Huff this year of Chattanooga. Enjoyed hearing their experience about VMI. Very enlightening. Both seem like great young men.
@punkinUSN
I ate at Blue Moose in Johnson City today, a new family sports bar that specializes in wings and burgers. They have helmets of the local high schools and colleges. Out of the blue there is a Furman football Jersey in the restaurant.
