Friends of twitter. I was involved in horrible RTA last night. My horsebox had a blow out, flipped and veered across 4 lanes on the M1. 2 horses & 2 people sore, bruised and shocked but amazingly ok. Feeling very lucky.
At Ravensbrück I laid a rose to the women of
#SOE
F section, remembering those who were killed, as well as those who survived and Yvonne Rudellat who was taken to Bergen-Belsen where she perished after liberation.

Sometime in early February 1945,
#SOE
F section agent Cicely Lefort was taken to Ravensbrück gas chamber, ordered to strip she & 150 women were told they would be treated for lice. Instead they were murdered. She 45 years old.

For me, this was the most beautiful and poignant part of today. The Queens pony Emma with her majesty's headscarf on the saddle was such a touching gesture and resonates with so many of us who also love horses.

Are you home schooling? Why not liven up your history by having a video call with a character from history? From the Romans to the cold war I can offer in character, costumed talks (with objects). Please share & drop me a PM if I can help you (& by doing so you will help me too)!
Oh twitter. I am feeling the love tonight (think there is a song in that). Just beaming from the best few days. Loved every second and you all are just great people! Thank you!

in a primary school today a pupil told me about the actions at telemark & gorgopotamus and the assassination of Heydrich (and Archduke Ferdinand) as well as letting me know his great grandfather was an Albanian partisan. Mind blown!

Today I am working at Audley end and I rode my horse to the Polish SOE memorial. She kindly moved her ears so you can get a good view of the dedication to the men and women of Station 43.

Today is (as far as we know it) the 83rd anniversary of the Special Operations Executive. Studying it has provided me with numerous friendships, opportunities, journey's and heroes. May the spirit of Resistance live on.

77 years ago tonight, at 21.15, 5th June 1944 hundreds of agents, resistance fighters and Maquis all across France heard the ‘action’ messages broadcast by the BBC on the wireless. The Allied invasion would take place within hours

agent Sonia Butt married fellow agent Captain Guy D'Artois. This meant they could not serve together but both survived the war and moved to Canada. Her story is told in

Yesterday marked the 100th birthday of the last surviving female F Section agent Phyllis Latour. Many happy returns to a remarkable woman. I was honoured to contribute some small bits of research for her speech.

My euphoria has turned to dismay. This is it. The

I was delighted that Noreen Riols,
#SOE
staff came to my talk

in Paris last week. Her role was to train agents to pass messages covertly & how to follow someone, and to act as a decoy in scenarios created to test agents.

"Mission France" is my debut book, it is about the 39 women of SOE F Section. Described as "a tale of triumph & tragedy, of romance but also ruin... a fitting epitaph to their courage & humanity.” Signed copies available this weekend

Another fab review for D-Day the unheard tapes. With articulate historians filling in the background, this becomes an all-purpose immersion that, in the fog of war, never loses sight of either the vast geopolitical overview or minute psychological realities.
Hi all. I am aware how the four women I tweeted about yesterday died. I have spent more time than most studying this in minute detail, which is in my book. A tweet cannot do the justice a chapter can...it was simply my way of commemorating.
At 4am on 8 June

F section agents Violette Szabo, Philippe Liewer, Bob Maloubier and Jean-Claude Guiet parachuted into the Limousin region. Ginette Jullian also parachuted that night near Orleans as wireless operator for Permit.
