@KathrynPorter26 It’s a posh way of saying the govt will have to subsidise industry BUT there is no money….surely it’s better to lower the price of the electricity and gas by removing wind / solar subsidies and encouraging more domestic supply

@kelvmackenzie But mad red Ed continues unabated……he seems unapproachable with no one in the Cabinet asking why our energy prices are so high nor the cost of carbon capture etc….

Norway coalition govt collapsed over domestic power prices that have risen a lot as those with lack of baseload (Germany and UK) have driven up prices - including theirs. Interconnector renegotiation next Summer. If Norway cut their 3 gw we import every day (not gas - which is different but power) what the fuck happens. They know it’s a risk which is why they have given 2026 Drax £170 kWh as it’s effectively base load so Drax had them over a barrel….what they should have done and will do when they realise blackout’s (before higher prices) is election armgeddon is build gas storage asap to stop bidding up for spot cargos against EU / Asia and develop own gas production via binning the EPL. It’s either blackout or the Treasury who see decommission liabilities this Parliament. The great zealot is in India telling them if they follow us they can have power prices 5 times higher so he’s not really understood……Yet……….Help….

No business can invest when employment costs post the budget are so high nor when energy costs are so high and going up. Everyone par the zealots and govt understand intermittent subsidies are driving our power prices up. £170 per mwh for a company that imports and burns wood pellets….granted as Drax is in effect base load and they panicked re Jan near miss re blackouts….what they should have done is immediately invest in more gas storage, remove the EPL to stimulate production for next 5 years and go for SMR asap but no they threw more money at……doubling down. Sunk cost fallacy. What happens when Norway pulls out of the interconnector arrangement?

@Trader__007 We are bust before then. Gilts look forward. OBR report re income from CGT, non Dom’s and EPL are wholly unrealistic. Utility bills go one way. Spring spending review is the crunch point

Have you worked out @RachelReevesMP and @darrenpjones that decommissioning costs given the decline rate of the North Sea is far greater than the OBR modelled is going to hit this Parliament? There is your black hole…..Well done

What bollocks. Go look at US gas and energy prices. EU and UK gas prices are high because we have no gas storage of any scale so we are reliant on spot cargoes and we often have to pay up to compete with Asia. Why not invest in gas storage? And develop own gas which would reduce reliance on 3rd parties? PS our bills are high because of renewable subsidies

@Ed_Miliband @mlkhattar @JoshiPralhad @UKinIndia Did you tell them that if they pursue net zero that they too can have power prices as high as ours….which are 5 to 6 times higher than theirs and set to go higher……
