absolutely! and for many victims (me included) a ton of added devastation occurs when the victim finally tells others what's been happening and they rebut with "but he seems so nice" or "she's never done anything to me". it's such a confusing, & extra painful time for the victim.

Don't let anyone tell you how or how long to grieve. Like a brutal car accident, narcissistic abuse severely damages its victim. The only difference is the damage is on the inside, where others can't see it. This is your healing journey... take as long as you need.
Narcissistic abuse can leave you with severe self-esteem issues, anxiety, depression or even PTSD. Healing from narcissistic abuse is a time consuming & gradual process. If survivors could simply just โget over itโ we would. Nobody deserves or wants the trauma caused by abuse.

Guilt and shame hang out together. Abused kids grow up with both and, even later in life when safe & okay, it's super-hard to shed those feelings because they've become habitual, a part of you. It took me 15 years of therapy and many learned tools learned to "break the habit".
