So look all I'm saying is, if you play the French with Black against 1.e4, and the Nimzo against 1.d4, and you want to avoid the Trompowsky, you can start with 1...e6 against 1.d4, since you're OK with transposing to the French, but if 2.c4 then you have 2...Nf6, with a Nimzo

The reason many titled players discourage folks from studying opening theory is because studying openings is in fact the best & only way to truly improve at chess, and they are just trying to keep others from being able to compete for tournament prizes

Chess24 is absolutely right.
Norm events have been around for a while, they're no secret loophole. People have had 18 years to criticize/change the rules since Karjakin.
I played Mishra, he's very good. And I've played one of those norm events, they're not that easy!
This feels petty in response to 1 ill-judged reply by Abhimanyu's father to an unnecessarily negative post by Nepo. GM norm events have issues, but it's not the kid's fault but something for FIDE. Not v. fair to bring up when the kid took a valid path to a goal after the pandemic

But in chess we would never invite a fish to play on equal stakes with pros. It'd be an obvious scam. In poker it seems like that's just part of the sport though. Am I missing something?
