So the NCAA overturned a judgement call that was made exclusively at the discretion of a replay official without a flag? Did this replay official make any other concerning judgment calls on splay where no flag was thrown in this game? 🤔
The NCAA has overturned a targeting call against Iowa linebacker Karson Sharar in last week's game against Minnesota. Sharar had to sit out the second half after the ruling, but will not have to miss the first half of a Nov. 4 game against Northwestern.

One take away from last night: give Phil Parker the Broyles award now. Iowa's defense lost the B1G DB of the year 2 weeks ago but still went out and held MICH to it's season low on O(3.3 YPP); he also did this vs one of his competitors for the Broyles in OC Sherrone Moore

You don't win football games scoring 6 points. Iowa's D knocked out their starting QB & their best play maker at WR, hold them to 9 points...and they still lose the game, just an all time bad offense for a P5 team through 6 games

It wasn't called on the field but somehow you can review 'invalid fair catch' signals? Hands never went above his shoulders; did his job to the letter of the rule. That is the most busch league call I've ever seen on a game changing play

Hats off to Tyler Linderbaum, hell of a career at Iowa and set a new high watermark for OC with his play in '21. Still remember him swapping back over to OC from DT years ago in bowl prep & thinking 'must be something to it' and damned if there wasn't, one of the all time greats

The UNC returner made the same (or more) motion here with his hands than Iowa and it wasn't called an illegal fair catch motion (gave them the 5 yard return after the catch).

Iowa O finally had itself a day, put up 400 total yards, had zero 3 and outs, hit some big plays & put up points. Iowa's D casually pitched a shut out, lights out from them. KF emotional during the post game, understandable, dude puts everything he has into leading this team

Looked at both holds Iowa got called for on their last offensive drive: no idea how you flag either of those, much less both of them. OC66 happened to be touching the DT9 when he fell, not a hold. RB10 drilled the blitzing LB & steered'm around QB4, not a hold. Really poor calls

This is the correct interpretation of the rule. It's written so returning teams can't get an unfair advantage with vague/half way done fair catch signals; yelling & pointing at teammates to not get hit by the short punt is not an unfair advantage, awful call by a replay official

There was no intent to fair catch...the rule is written so people don't try to mess with kicking team. How it is reviewable is even more of a head scratcher. Anyone watching can see what he is doing.

Iowa has been blown out in all 3 of their losses in '21 and they all looked pretty much the same, run game limited, pass attack just looks lost most of the day, offense unable to finish drives and get points...can't win conference titles this way, amazing they got here at all

in this case B21 never gave a 'waving signal' that anyone other than a remote replay official saw; no Minnesota players stopped playing, no official blew it dead when he took off the with the ball, sorry it was just a bad call, sometimes it's just that simple

Not much more to say about Iowa at this point, the offense is beyond broken and there doesn't appear to be any light at the end of the tunnel. The defense can't continue to drag the dead body of the offense around for Ws, hard to see them getting to a bowl like this

Can't say I saw TE84 leading Iowa in catches and yards today but I don't think that will be the last time it happens, very talented dude. Got elements of TJ Hockensen to his game & think he's got a very bright future

Really impressive win for Iowa on the road in MD, defense was lights out, can really see the growth for the offense, it's not a finished product yet but passing game trending up, QB7 has improved noticeably, FR WRs have emerged, continue to see RBs contribute in pass game

This Iowa team has lived on the razors edge all year, this game was no exception, pull out a W with a big TD run late. They scraped together just enough yards & points to hang on 15-13. Some huge stops down the stretch by the D and the O found the late TD,improbable run continues

Iowa survives in Ames with Gameday in town. It wasn't pretty but a rivalry game on the road that was delayed twice? I think you'll take it any way you can get it. Need to get healthy in the next couple of weeks & ready to face gauntlet of their B1G schedule

Looking through the run game, it's got fingerprints of a modern Shananhan offense all over it; same base plays, IZ, OZ, split zone, counter etc but way more emphasis on motion, misdirection & pitch/toss looks; noticeable schematic shake up & a much needed one

Nice way for ISM to close out his rookie season in Minnesota, going over 100 yards on 3 catches & getting his 2nd career TD. 3rd catch was a nice grab on a 19y corner route that was very reminiscent of his corner route TD vs Miss TD in 2019 outback bowl

Previous to PSU, Linderbaum has played at a very high level in '21, but I think the PSU game raised the bar another notch or two to me, consistently dominant...just checked all the boxes for all 4Qs

2. Iowa's defense & ST are really good again & continue to get better.

Iowa’s pass protection is beyond brutal. The focus is largely on Petras, and he’s far from perfect, but it’s nearly impossible to look decent with the pressure he’s seeing

Anyone else fascinated/impressed by former Iowa DT/DE Matt Nelson for not only making the conversion to OT in the NFL but has had 12 starts at OT, basically has been Detroit's swing OT last 2 years and still sees a lot of work as an extra OL/inline TE, crazy

The NCAA has changed what is reviewable so many times it's hard to keep track of; even if that IS reviewable, what advantage did Iowa gain by CB3 telling his teammates to get away from the short punt? happens on every short punt, clown-shoe level officiating

Iowa's '21 offensive PPD(points per drive) ends up at 1.77, good for 102nd nationally and somehow won 10 games. Had to look this up and only 2 other P5 teams have won 10 games with sub 2.0 PPD, '15 Florida(1.62, 104th) & '09 Iowa(1.83, 81st)

Pretty sure it's been said by just about everyone at this point, but that was one hell of a game from Jack Campbell. One of the only guys who could square up RB24 to limit his runs & part of the two huge turnovers that set Iowa up to win. Incredible performance in the frigid cold

Well, with the WISC loss, Iowa now is the B1G West champions for 2021. They will face Michigan in the B1G title game in Indy. Michigan will be the best team they’ve faced in 2021 & Iowa will need to play their best game of 2021 to have chance to win.

Numbers haven’t been eye popping for DE94 in 2019 but he’s been an impact guy each & every game. This was a hell of signature moment for him, big plays all game & saved his best for the end. Hell of day for him

Really don’t get the amount of leeway Frost seems to be granted by the hometown media. Year 1 & year 2 you can talk about culture issues, rebuild etc...we’re in year 3 and it’s still the same song and dance...and no signs of progress to be seen

A win is a win but Iowa has some enormous problems on offense to solve, even with QB12 it has been a shaky offense, and it's likely QB10s show now. Iowa wants to be a run heavy team but can't control the LOS, and have no QB run threat. Pass game needs to emerge in a hurry

I've known Cooper Dejean since he was a sophomore in high school. And I've never seen him more excited than when his roommate, Max White, scored his 1st Hawkeye touchdown.
Grand scheme of things-a meaningless touchdown in the game. But one that the White family will never forget.

Pretty simple game to summarize: WISC made the plays when it mattered, Iowa didn't. Iowa killed themselves with unforced errors & missed plays. Can't be -2,-3 in turnovers and expect to beat a team like WISC, just too many mistakes to overcome

Went back through the Iowa vs OSU game...probably already obvious but that is the worst I've ever seen an Iowa offense look...pretty much nothing they did worked, timing on snaps still an issue in G7, OL is in shambles, both QBs melted out there, hard to believe it was that bad

Everyone thought Fant would be a big winner at combine & he didn't disappoint: top spot in 40, 3 cone, vert jump, broad jump & 60 shuttle. Hockenson was no slouch, consistently in top tier in nearly every test & was impressive in field drills. Iowa TEs on parade the combine

Iowa's DL just manhandled the ISU OL most of the day in both phases of the game; DL set LBs up for success all day vs run; DT96 had probably his best game as a DT, DT90 more than did his job, DE98 did his usual thing, & DE94 was in hulk smash mode as a pass rusher

At the halfway point of the season, I'd list Iowa's biggest offensive issues as this(in order IMO):
1a) Pass blocking
1b) Run blocking
2) WR depth/health/output
3) QB Play
As far as fixes go, no easy answers, OL isn't an overnight fix, may get a few WRs back to help there tho

It's hard to see Iowa winning it's next 3 games while playing like this on offense but they manage to pull out another win in this one. The D & Special teams continue to absolutely carry the team, Iowa now at 7-2

Iowa,specifically CB3 got robbed by the officials in this game. They didn't do anywhere near enough offense to win & should lose games playing this bad. Iowa doing it's best to give back the B1G West with it's smoking crater of an offense; Iowa better find answers on the bye week

The other thing that sticks out on rewatch: how well prepared the Iowa D was & how well they played despite the 50+ day from OSU...they put out so many fires in this game and did everything they possible could to give the O chances to make this a game but it just never happened

Thought QB7 played a very solid game, missed a throw or two, didn't find a couple of open guys but given the conditions? Pretty solid day, especially under pressure which has been a sticking point most of the year
