Harry's Newsletter (monday):
Joined June 2011
Had a buzz cut. Went on my favourite podcast :). “Learn Great Copywriting in 76 minutes”.
Harry Dry is the best copywriter I know. He's built a 130,000-person newsletter teaching people how to do it, and by the end of this interview, you'll be at least a Green Belt in copywriting. Some of his rules for writing:. 1) A great sentence is a good sentence made shorter.

I wrote this ad, and I quite like it.
Eight. That's how many businesses tried @tryramp's corporate card in 2024, and decided it was not for them. Now, eight looks like an awfully small number when you compare it to twelve thousand fifty-nine. That's how many businesses tried our (beloved) corporate card in 2024 and

@david_perell “I had to learn to think, feel and see in a totally new fashion, in an uneducated way, in my own way, which is the hardest thing in the world. I had to throw myself into the current, knowing that I would probably sink. The great majority of artists are throwing themselves in with.

@jackbutcher Love this. But don't blindly follow the “this is pointless” phase. Because for the majority it remains “pointless”. If you're going to “blow up” you'll get small signs that you're onto something. An email, a tweet, a gut feeling. Eg, Schulz, Lil Nas X, VV.

@businessbarista 90% of the comments have overcomplicated this. *Your offer isn't worth signing up for*. Why on earth would I give my email address to “reserve my invite” to get an “exclusive discount” for a game that's “coming soon”. It's fluffy, vague, and pretend. Here's what I'd do. •.

@noahkagan Congrats Noah. You took a loving, long-shot, irrational, bet sponsoring my site when I started. Site was tiny, it made no financial sense, but it gave me momentum and I'll always be grateful 🙏. Downloaded on Kindle. Looking forward to it 💕.

@gus_tiffer Go on Dave Trott's blog. Every time you read an article, you have to write one That's the rule. Read one. Write one. Then repeat with “Hey Whipple Squeeze This”. Then repeat with “The Copy Book”. Read one. Write one. Do that for 300 days.

@RussellOkung @naval hmm, i can see why you feel like that. But, honestly, this whole thing, isn't really about Kanye West. It was about me pretending that I can be a superhero for a few months + not being afraid to be bold and try stuff.

@DanishaCarter4 @deathbunni show some respect. you're making this sound like some bullshit celebrity drama. put your ego to one side. this isn't about whose "right". it's also not about you.

@growthesque Not quite. It just forces you to answer the question “what do we have, that customers want, and the competition isn't giving them?”. One extra dial on the speedometer has nothing to do with “being an amazing company”. It's a reflection of “having something to say” (in this case,

@IndieHackers If your newsletter is quality then consistency in subject line is underrated. It avoids your open rate being tied to subject lines. For example every Farnham Street email is, "Brain Food # [No]" . I replicate this with @GoodMarketingHQ. And my open rate stays > 45%.

@grantfwilkinson Thanks Grant. 100%. The whole story can be embodied by a simple @naval line: . "There are no adults. We're all making it up as we go along. So figure it out yourself and do it!".

@GoodMarketingHQ Enjoyed writing this. Reminds me of. “Software is this weird space where you can spend basically nothing and create a billion dollars of value, or spend a billion dollars and create basically no value.” — @fchollet . ^ Same in marketing!.

@jasonfried Excited for the new copy! . Two random ideas. I made this a year ago for practice. 1/ “BUSY ≠ PRODUCTIVE” — fun big subheader.2/ Labelling competitors as “Project (Mis)management apps” made me smile at the time

@GoodMarketingHQ I remember reading this from PG. Took me a few months to understand what he meant. Essentially. Don't hide your strong verb as a noun. “They disagreed is better than they had different opinions.”.
Err on the side of verbs. If you have to choose between expressing something via the verb or in some other way, choose the verb.

@jackbutcher whats the objective? . without context numbers are meaningless. even with context you don't want to get drawn into the day to day. I check stuff weekly / biweekly. Otherwise I get bogged down in the weeds.

@stephsmithio Something you can’t buy. Perhaps you make them a radio show. Just for them. Different segments: Old friends. Interview Grandparents. Favourite songs. Memories.
