Absolutely delighted to win Young Journalist of the Year at the Wales Media Awards
@JournoCharity
last night ☺️
I was shortlisted alongside some amazing friends from
@ITVWales
so it’s been a lovely surprise. It was also my last chance saloon for that award as I’m too old now! 😂
@AndyCantwell
😂😂 Tyler was so downbeat for the first goal I didn’t even celebrate for a couple of seconds because I thought it must have been ruled out already
It’s time to swap the suit for a boilersuit again 🐑
Today was my last day at
@ITVWales
for a while. My parents are sheep farmers on a wee Orkney Island in Scotland, where they’ve been for nearly 50 years. Unfortunately my dad is not well so I’m off to help for 3 months 👋 🏴
I’m delighted to say I’ve been given a 12 month contract as an On-Screen Reporter for
@ITVWales
! I’ve loved doing the job for much of the last year and I’m delighted to be staying on in Cardiff for the foreseeable 📺 🎉🏴
Robert Rorie-Munro, aged 4, asked Kate if she was a prince while Hamish Sclater, also 4, asked William if he liked his shoes, to which William replied that he did and asked Hamish if he liked his, to which he replied: “no, I like mine better because they are new and they flash!”
The Bailiwick of Guernsey is perhaps the British Isles’ best-kept Covid secret. It’s the only place where you can gather in groups and not socially distance. Tonight is an exciting first for me, as my report on Guernsey’s success will be on *NATIONAL* ITV News at 5:30 tonight! 😄
This is one of the most bizarre interviews I’ve seen for a while. It’s like something out a sketch show. I cannot for the life of me work out why Talk Radio would be proud enough of it to share it…
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were in Orkney today for an official engagement.
@OrkneyCouncil
says there was an amusing chance encounter between the royal couple and some local primary school bairns whilst out and about in Kirkwall... [short thread]

Quite simply a brilliant day. Lockdown over in Guernsey and Live on national
@itvnews
with the happy story of a remarkable community’s efforts to get back its freedom from this virus. Thankfully I didn’t look as nervous as I felt 😂📺

🇬🇬
Despite growing up in Orkney shearing sheep and exclusively consuming radio, I’m absolutely over the moon to say that after 18 months on various secondments, I’ve been made a permanent On-Screen Journalist with
@ITVWales
😄🏴🏴
I’m sad to say my time in beautiful Guernsey is nearly over 🇬🇬
Since arriving nearly 7 months ago, I have loved it here more than I could have ever imagined. Lovely people, gorgeous scenery and fantastic
@ITVChannelTV
colleagues has made it one of the best periods of my life. 1/2
And it truly is a celebratory atmosphere here! Guernsey is out of lockdown and I just did my first EVER live on national
@itvnews
with
@lucrezianews
. Six months ago I’d never done any live TV reporting, so this was exciting and terrifying in equal measure! 📺
#GuernseyTogether
Mum and dad have been farmers for 40 years in Orkney. Every summer I go there to cut peat, shear sheep, fix fences and generally get back to what I grew up doing. My trip starts today and I’ll be back in a month. I love my job, but this is my favourite time of the year 🏴 🐑 🏝
Mr Tulloch of Glaitness Nursery said: “It was absolutely by chance. Some of the children were out for a walk to look at the boats down at the harbour. The children are delighted with the encounter and have come back with their stories about meeting a real prince and princess.”
My granny, Mary, is 98 years young today! She was a Wren during WW2, working for a time in Bletchley Park where the Enigma machine was operated. I’m one of her 13 grandchildren and she’s an inspiration to us all - what a legend! ❤️
My wonderful Granny and her twin sister turn 96 years old today. I suspect they’re two of the oldest twins in the UK now! Granny is soldiering on with a smile on her face despite the difficulties of older age in a pandemic. She’s an absolute inspiration to me always ❤️❤️
🔊 I’m delighted to say I will be moving to the Channel Islands next month to work as an on-screen reporter for
@ITVChannelTV
in Guernsey 🇬🇬 📺
I will miss Wales and my
@ITVWales
colleagues for the six months I’m away but it’s no secret I love islands... 🏝
I can scarcely believe it but I’ve just done my first telly live!!! 😅 🎥
It was a nice straightforward one to start... a convoluted historical murder by a man who faked his own death off Guernsey, and who has just been granted parole.
@ITVChannelTV
🇬🇬🇬🇬
This was incredibly difficult to write. My parents have farmed sheep on the little Orkney island of Auskerry for the last 48 years. But in 2021, my dad Simon was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. As his condition progresses, we know time on our beautiful island home is now limited.
🌅 "We hope other people may, in future, be able to create their own chapter for the island when we no longer can."

It’s two years to the day since I joined
@ITVWales
as a trainee production journalist. Tomorrow is my last day before heading off on loan to
@ITVChannelTV
as an on-screen reporter in Guernsey.
I’m so excited to start but I will miss Wales and everyone here! 🏴❤️📺
Ukrainians at a
#solidarityWithUkraine
rally in Cardiff Bay broke into song just now. Speakers this evening, including Svitlana Phillips,
@MickAntoniw1
and
@Adamprice
, called for tougher sanctions and more help for Ukraine and its people.
@ITVWales
It’s a strange moment when everyone in the mask-less and non socially distanced departure lounge begin to start putting on their face coverings and leave distance as they queue up for our flight from covid-free Guernsey to the unknown world of the UK. À la perchoine! 🇬🇬🇬🇬❤️
This is unexpected! There’s been a motion of congratulations in the Scottish Parliament for my
@JournoCharity
Wales Media Award ☺️ Thanks
@jhalcrojohnston
🏴
I was home-educated until I was 14 by my brilliant mum due to how remote our farm is, so this one is definitely for her ❤️
New: Guernsey now only has 6 active cases of Covid-19 after three more people recovered overnight. Today (as of 12 noon) is the 7th consecutive day with no cases found. “We’re in a really good place”, Dr Brink says.
@ITVChannelTV
There is no one in any newsroom anywhere in the world who will be missed more than this man. An institution, a legend and a gentleman. Get your feet up now Gary! ⭐️
📺 A week of “lasts” for me this week.
Tonight my final live report into the
@ITVChannelTV
programme ahead of my final “goodbye” shift this Thursday.
This evening reporting on mobile jab clinics and an exclusive on digital Covid passports…
I’ve always wanted to try a “pressured” piece to camera like this. Ryan Giggs was emerging from court after his third day giving evidence. Legendary cameraman
@Channel405TV
was up for it and this is the result on
@ITVWales
at Six 📺
I’m delighted to say that I’m rejoining
@ITVChannelTV
for all of next week! I’ll be reporting from Jersey this time, a place I was never able to visit due to covid restrictions. I can’t wait to join up with the wonderful team there! Any stories, please get in touch 📺 🗒 🇯🇪
It’s time to leave the island farm & my parents behind for another year 🥺🏴 The last four months have been very tough, both emotionally and physically, but it’s also been the most fulfilling and meaningful time of my life. I’m back in my suit and tie next week for
@ITVWales
🏴📺
Studio lives were one of those elusive things that I feared because I’d never done one, so it was a relief that I didn’t fall off my chair tonight for my first one for
@ITVWales
! Thanks
@ElliePittTV
for nodding sagely and keeping me calm and to
@LouiseTalks
for putting me there.
That
@ITVChannelTV
special half-hour programme about Gary Burgess’ life and work was beautiful. The team should be very proud of giving the great man such a wonderful and well-deserved tribute.
He was the best of us. RIP Gary.
Working with the national
@itvnews
team in London over the past month has been incredible. The pace is intense but working alongside some very talented colleagues has been a joy. Back to
@ITVWales
for me now as we build towards a hugely exciting World Cup 🏴 So long London 👋 ❤️
I’m heading back to Cardiff in a week when my secondment ends, continuing to report on screen for now. I’m excited to get back to my lovely girlfriend
@fayepatton96
and my friends and colleagues at
@ITVWales
. For now, all I want to say is thankyou Guernsey! ❤️🇬🇬
#GuernseyTogether
Four years ago today I walked through the doors at
@ITVWales
in Cardiff as a trainee, just months after finishing my undergrad degree. It’s been an absolute blast so far doing one of the best jobs there is ✅ 📺
The Isle of Man went into lockdown on 7th of January and is on-track to relax all internal restrictions on 1st Feb. Let’s hope Guernsey is similarly successful 🤞🤞
Today marks a whole week of no new cases of COVID meaning the Isle of Man is on-track for all on-Island restrictions to be lifted on 1st Feb, including social distancing.
For one last time this year, I’ll be on your telly (if you live in Wales!) in a few minutes 🎄
@ITVWales
Thank you to everyone I’ve met and filmed with this year across the country 👍☺️
Double jabbed today! 💉 All set now for a glorious return to Guernsey next month for Vale Earth Fair with ex-
@ITVChannelTV
partner-in-crime
@MarinaJenkins_
🇬🇬 🔥 I can’t wait to see this sight again!
Like so many others, I am heartbroken at the loss of our mate & colleague
@RobMilburnTV
.
Milbs had a laugh and sense of humour that made any job a pleasure to do with him. He cared about everyone he worked with. He was silly, kind and immensely talented.
I’ll miss him so much.
No one would have begrudged Steve Wright a week of special shows looking back at decades of the Big Show. And yet today, on his penultimate show, he’s still reading out the forecast & text number. I can’t believe his brilliant, often hilarious tenure on the air is nearly over 😢
Today is a beautiful day in Guernsey. We join Alderney and Sark as the only places in the British Isles with the freedom to meet, mix and touch freely again. Stage 3 also means unrestricted care home visits and travel in the Bailiwick Bubble. Coverage all day on
@ITVChannelTV
Oh how I wish we still had the wonderful
@GaryBurgessCI
around to pick the bones out of this election in Jersey. His warmth, intellect and humour are sorely missed, never more so than during days like this.
#BeMoreBurgess

#JerseyElection22
I’ve worked in Wales for 5 years now with
@ITVWales
so I’m very proud to have been shortlisted for the
@JournoCharity
Wales Media Awards 2023 in the Young Journalist category 🥃 It’s lovely to share the list with great colleagues and friends 💪☺️
One of my first impressions of life in quarantine in Guernsey?
The water and local milk are very nice and I’ve had three of the best cups of tea I’ve had in many a year.
This will take me far ☕️
When Guernsey diagnosed its first Covid-19 case a year ago, the testing capacity here was 35 swabs a day.
A year on the capacity is 1,500-2,000 every day. Remarkable 50 fold increase.
I get quite a few blank looks when I say I cut the peat at home on Auskerry for my parents to burn all year round. If you’re not familiar with the process, here’s a wee explanation! 🔥
#Scotland
🏴
London feels more lively than ever ahead of a huge state occasion. Hundreds of thousands of visitors have been treated to a beatiful sunset bathing
#TheQueue
and a rainbow above the London Eye. I’m looking forward to working alongside colleagues at national
@itvnews
from 7am.
I love travelling to the Channel Islands, but I deeply wish this visit was for different reasons. I will be joining up with amazing colleagues at
@ITVChannelTV
to mark the Haut de Mont tragedy as best we can. We will have a special programme of coverage on Monday at 6pm.
#Jersey
Five years to the day since I first walked into the
@ITVWales
office as a trainee! 📺 I’m so grateful for all the career opportunities I’ve had since then in Guernsey, London & Cardiff with amazing colleagues and friends. Thankfully there’s no summer silly season on the farm! 🏴
The murder of 18-year-old Lily Sullivan by Lewis Haines has not prompted a huge amount of coverage, but the sheer casualness of this 31-year-old man's evil is terrifying. A man who killed a woman because she rejected him.
These are the words read in court from Lily's mum Anna:
I’ve absolutely loved coming back to report for
@ITVChannelTV
this week in Jersey. They’re a brilliant team and a genuine pleasure to work alongside and learn from. I’ll be back in the islands in a couple of weeks on holiday, but for now it’s back to Cardiff! À la perchoine 🇯🇪 👋
10,000 subscribers!! 🤯🎥
I’m stunned at the interest in my films about the island of Auskerry in Orkney. Being honest about my dad’s struggle with dementia & its impact on the farm was a scary prospect, but the kind reaction from around the world has been amazing. Thank you! ❤️
One million views! 🤯🥹
Starting a YouTube channel about my parents’ life on the island of Auskerry was initially just a space to store precious memories, so I’m stunned and delighted at the reaction. I’m so pleased I had the chance to share this wonderful place with others ❤️🎥
After seven months away, I’m back in the Bay and back at
@ITVWales
! 📺 I’m really looking forward to start reporting on screen here for the next few months, on stories including, of course, the
#SeneddElection2021
🏴😀
Half a million people have watched me cutting peat for fuel on my parents’ farm in Orkney 🤯😮
I wanted to document my 4 months on the island of Auskerry because my dad’s Alzheimer’s diagnosis is painful, and keeping happy memories is one way to fight it. I never imagined this!
I’m just a bit smitten with the first seal pup of the year on Auskerry 😍 🦭
I’ve not been here in October since I was a child so it’s brilliant to see the start of pupping season again
#Orkney
It's my debut tonight on
@ITVWales
' current affairs programme
@SharpEndITV
! 📺
I've been meeting with passionate campaigners trying to protect their local green spaces from Cardiff's Hailey Park to Anglesey's Penrhos. You can see a shortened version on Wales at Six right now.
Loved seeing Herm and Guernsey from above as I flew in today. I’m all safely in quarantine isolation now - shame the airline left all my baggage in Southampton, however... 😅🇬🇬
It’s a cliche that working in news is varied and interesting, but I mean I’ve just done a studio live for
@itvlondon
about child abuse and then after 7pm I have a package for the national
@itvnews
about Britney Spears’ wedding. Also, being in this studio for the first time was 😬
Message in the family groupchat from mum:
“Found some post-coital bliss today”.
🙃😶
I opened my WhatsApp apprehensively, but thankfully this picture accompanied the text… 🫢🤣

#Auskerry
I’ve been finding out more about the redevelopment project at La Vallette bathing pools in the only way you can as a telly reporter - by having a go! Find out how I got on at 6pm on
@ITVChannelTV
🥶
@BathingPools
New: Guernsey’s Chief Minister has just told me live on
@ITVChannelTV
that authorities here hope stage three of the island’s exit from lockdown will come on Monday March 22nd, and that stage will look very similar to last year’s stage five. That means social distancing gone etc.
Well after being in London for a month, I enjoyed my 48 hours at home in Cardiff… 😬😀 Excitingly, I’m off to Jersey this evening for a few days to help colleagues at
@ITVChannelTV
with their coverage of the
#JerseyElection22
. I might not be super but I’m defo a sub! 🗳🇯🇪☀️
I appear to have inadvertently chosen the newsiest of news days to begin my annual trip home to Orkney to help my folks on our farm. Until early August I’m swapping my normal suit for a boiler-suit and my notepad for sheep shears!🏴 I’ll be back for a snap election if needs be 😂
The question I’m asked most about where I’m from is “how do you get home?” If you’ve ever wondered about that or generally about what life is like on Auskerry then you might enjoy a wee YouTube series I’m planning over the next 3 months… here’s a teaser
Three years ago today I arrived for my first day at
@ITVWales
, fresh out of uni and in a new country. I’m grateful for what’s been a very enjoyable and *varied* learning curve from the start, in Wales and in Guernsey 📺
I’m no Oprah, but this is an exclusive interview you will not want to miss. For the first time, former Chief Minister
@gavinstpier
and the serving Chief Minister Peter Ferbrache sit down to talk about leadership during the pandemic, rivalry and more. 6pm TONIGHT.
#CovidOneYearOn
I’m surprised & delighted to reach the milestone of 1,000 subscribers on my YouTube channel!! 😀🎥 🎉
When I was on the farm for 4 months I wanted to capture as much as possible, as the memories are so precious. I’m so grateful to everyone for watching - there’s more to come! 📺
🚨 I’m very excited to share the first episode of my new YouTube series ‘On to Other News’ tomorrow 🚨
You’ll be transported to the different world that is farming seaweed-eating sheep on a remote Scottish island. That’s been my parents’ life for nearly 50 years 🏴🏝️[Thread]
Today has been challenging, upsetting and heartwarming in equal measure. The Haut du Mont tragedy will never be forgotten by islanders. It was a privilege to help the
@ITVChannelTV
team tonight on a special programme like none other for Jersey. Thankyou for having me 🇯🇪
I just reported on the
@ITVWales
lunchtime news on the small fire that injured one male patient at the University Hospital of Wales. First ever as-live for me, plus the added pressure of self-shooting it as well. I’ve been thrown in the deep-end this week and I’ve loved it. 📺
2023 hasn’t been the easiest year, with family health struggles and the loss of several special people. But it’s also been a very meaningful and fulfilling year at work in Cardiff and on Auskerry alongside brilliant colleagues, family and
@fayepatton01
. All the best for 2024 ❤️
I left Guernsey months ago but tonight I am back on
@ITVChannelTV
!
It’s the first part of my new series called ‘Island Lives’, featuring unique people with great stories to tell. Tonight it’s crowd pleaser of 64 years - ‘DJ Silver Fox’ from Sark. He’s truly a legend. 6pm tonight
There was one interview I did with a young lad in a pub, which didn’t make the final edit, but he said on camera “I’ve had the best year of my life in Guernsey”.
I think nothing sums up the difference in emotions experienced by people here compared to the rest of the planet.
Everyone who spent time in Gary’s orbit knew his personality was incredibly rare and beautiful. He was driven by everything important to him and had an amazing sense of fun. I had the absolute privilege of learning from him and laughing with him. GB you’re one of a kind. RIP
