With all due respect we didn’t have Universal Medicare or The Canada Pension Plan in 1961, on top of other services we all rely on. So I am asking you, where are you going to cut?
In 1961, the avg. Cdn family spent 34% of its income on taxes, vs 57% on cost of living.
Today the avg. family pays 43% of income to taxes vs 36% on necessities.
And the NDP & Trudeau Liberals say you can pay even more with their carbon tax.
WATCH:
As a University of Calgary Senator I stand in solitary with the students who are exercising their right of free speech. I am deeply troubled by what I am seeing at this moment on campus, less than 24 hours after the protest has begun.
@UCalgary
To my recollections what is happening here and at the University of Calgary is the most aggressive form protest disbursement in Alberta's big cities history.
No dialogue, no deescalation, only violence, by one party.
This is a dark week for higher education in Alberta.
This is what happening right now. This is going to have lasting impacts on University of Alberta as people around the world watch the brutality you inflicted on your students by sending riot cops on them.
If you go to a restaurant be patient if the service or food is slow. So many restaurants right now are understaffed after 3 rounds of opening and closing. It takes a while to onboard. And if you can tip well, a lot of the staff have dealt with financial hardship.
As a former restaurant manager I can say that Yellow Tail Shiraz from Austrialia is a full body wine with a hint of blackberry, carry's a mild smokey flavor, goes well with a grade A Alberta steak and won't stand in the way of safe pipeline development.

A lot of us are angry and rightfully so, but we won't be able to stop Sean Chu on Twitter. If you know anyone who lives in Ward 4 call, email, or text them and make sure they vote on Monday. If you can, go to a campaign office and door knock.
I'll have to tare up my resignation letter. Guess I'm not becoming the regional manager of Orange Julius. But in all seriousness welcome to the race

We can do this. Together. For Alberta. For all of us.

As I understand it, staff in the Premier’s Office offered MLA Luff a chance to address her concerns with a mediator but, instead of responding, she went to the media.
She's made it impossible for us - as a caucus - to have confidence in her as a member of our team.

I know Robyn Luff well - our kids are the same age & we were both on parental leave during the campaign - but I don't understand her attacks.
Our caucus is a team. We don't always get our way but we do have the ear of Ministers and have input on legislation. 1/2

To say I am disappointed to hear David isn't running is an understatement, in fact I was ready to endorse him. You won't see many as genuine as David. He is the MLA I run into the most in community because he's so embedded in his job. Alberta is a better place because of him.
Since the election last year, I’ve had many people across communities and in political circles reach out to encourage me to pursue the leadership of the Alberta NDP.
And in recent months, as it became clearer that a race was coming, I had many ask if I would be in it.

Imagine if you are going 70km in a playground zone and a cop does nothing, but asks you to use personal responsibility.
You then get caught going 70km again, almost hit a kid, and instead of writing you a ticket, the cop offers you $100 if you promise not to do it again.

It's a shame to see the UCP continue to politicize vulnerable kids. You'd have a lot more credibility if your party hadn't voted against additional funding for Child Intervention earlier this month.

The child intervention panel met for a year and got Albertans hoping the system would see meaningful change after Serenity's death. There are still no accountability mechanisms in place to ensure these recommendations don't get shelved and forgotten.

Friends, I may be six years removed from the restaurants, but I still remember how tough the industry was, and how I lived paycheck to paycheck at times. So please if you can order takeout, pick it up if you able to, and tip extra (as if you were dining in).

It was great to have Rachel in South Calgary today talking about our vision for the future, including resource development and our plan for universal $25 a day child care.
There's partisanship and then there is acknowledging that something positive happened. I think Biden's approach at calling it out in that moment was correct.
Hot take: The UCP knew the results at 5, they called a caucus meeting/or people were tipped off. Then a strong number of MLA's threatened to revolt. They spent an hour discussing and Kenney's hand was forced.

For the first time ever everyone of the candidates that I voted for on the municipal ballots are women. What is equally exciting is there were enough talented female candidates that you still don't know who I voted for.
An important note. AHS and AGLC has ALWAYS had the right to suspend a restaurant's licence and their ability to serve without a court order. Running a restaurant in Alberta is a privilege, not a right, and if you can't be compliant with the rules, you can't operate. Full stop.
What can I say, I have a soft spot for candidates who live in their ridings.

Hearing my 14 year old talk about public policy I'd beg to differ. Youth tend to be more engaged because they are learning a critical look at the world around them beyond the 15 second news cycle. I have never been grilled harder and held accountable more than by the youth.
