On the auspicious day of Diwali, I am finally on the website . With this, I am very delighted to announce that I have joined Professor George Coupland's group as a "rePLANT MSCA fellow" for my PhD at Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding Research,Cologne.
The cartoon is sarcastic ofcourse but raise an important issue at the same time.
Techniques of doing science have improved so does pressure for outcomes !

Say yes to NGTs. We believe in potential of

India is celebrating

today in the memory of Sir C.V. Raman's discovery of Raman effect. He explained why the sea and sky looks blue. His research has numerous applications in laser development. Shown below is the instrument he used at that time for discovery.
Fascinated by talk from

Due to a gene from a mushroom, engineered petunia emits a continuous green glow (luciferin)
Flowers that look white during the day; but, in dark, the plant glows a faint green
Hope to see in India soon !
Remembering Charles Robert Darwin on his 115th birth anniversary. Darwin who sailed by HMS Beagle 🚢 in the Sea of Evolutionary Biology, gave us our beloved theory of Natural selection and become the father of Evolutionary Biology.

Government of India is finally acknowledging the contribution of Sir Swaminathan by awarding him with the highest honor of the country, the BHARAT RATNA, Posthumously. He was such a inspiration for all the scientists of the country.
Padma Vibhushan, Sir Swaminathan has left us today at the age of 98. He will always be remembered for his enormous contribution for ensuring food security for everyone. RIP
Scientists were finally listened by European Union and now NGT 1 plants and conventional plants will be considered equivalent and are exempted to be labelled as GMOs. Great news !!!

Fellowship disbursement is the biggest problem that students encounter during their PhD in India. 6 months delay appear so normal in India and sometimes it's heartbreaking when you have to ask for the money from the parents at this age.
China is ready with GMO soyabean and corn.
Irony is we eat crops loaded with pesticides everyday but can't agree upon GMOs !
Now we have examples of safe history of GMO crops from America and Africa. It's high time to think for the fate of GMO crops.
Nice indeed to interact with PhD students of
@MPIMP_Potsdam
and getting to know their research projects as well..! Appreciable efforts of both PhD coordinators and PhD reps (external)
Great fun at our very first Inter-MPI Symposium for PhD Students in Plant Science last week

🥳🎉. Three days of interesting talks, discussions, and fruitful networking. Plant Science at its best! 🌱🌿👍
Authors mentioned that they have generated figures through midjourney (a kind of AI thing). Some figures felt conceptually wrong and what were the reviewers doing

? Didn't expect such low effort science can be published that easily.

As the government comes under pressure from industrial lobbies we citizens need to neutralise this pressure by raising our voices...
They only care about growth & development.
But what does this
Science never fails to amaze us.
A groundbreaking study from

So they have "names"😉
We have not received our fellowship for the last 7 months (since April, 2022). There are no updates as of yet. How will we manage our daily expenses and on top of that, how will we pay a hiked fee?

Sometimes, It becomes hard to me to understand the definition of animal cruelty. Millions of chickens are being eaten every day and are living very miserable life in poultry farms.
Why not to stop that cruelty and then why this drama??

Interesting read. tells importance of controls in an experiment and proper peer-review process of the manuscript that new PhD student will follow during their journey.
@hanisha_kv
Sometimes it becomes necessary when paper is directly related to cell wall/ plasma membrane and the term used like more than 100 times in a paper. Otherwise it's not needed to use abbreviation for such terms.
I am not sure how many people outside Brazil are aware that all of our graduate and postgraduate scientists are in danger of not having their scholarships/fellowships paid this December.
This is their salary and (usually) their only source of income!!!

Welcome to this move. However the fellowship hike could be more than 19% considering the inflation rates.
Also, the most important factor is regular disbursement of the fellowships.
I always quote "only happy minds can do good science".
Many congratulations to the reseachers

Science is hard.
Good research makes you feel stupid.
You're inadequate for the task at hand.
How else would it be? You're pushing the boundaries of knowledge.
Get used to it. This process is immensely rewarding.
I so dislike to c that in almost 💯 % scientific conferences girl students r assigned the job of carrying 🪔 Thali, 🌺 bouquet, mementos etc. We talk big bt y do we find it so hard to break gender stereotypes even in such small events?

I read a paper where authors randomly truncate a protein nowhere mentioning the size of deletion they made.
Nowhere in Supplementary and neither the primer used.
After having sat in PhD and iPHD interviews for the last few weeks one piece of advice to all students…..
Always look up websites for the institute and labs of interest when attending interviews. Does help to know what your interests align with and it’s rather easy to do.
