A powerful start to the day with a morning welcome and prayer, followed by an inspiring plenary on The Mission of Catholic Higher Education: The Challenge of Integrating Minds, Hearts, and Hands with Sr. Raffaella Petrini, FSE, Secretary General, Governorate of Vatican City State (@VaticanNews @Pontifex). She emphasized the urgency for “epochal change” and offered four guiding criteria to explore and develop: 🔷 Keeping formation open to transcendence 🔷 Offering a space for encounter 🔷 Fostering a cross-disciplinary approach 🔷 Developing networks among people and academic institutions The day continued with insightful sessions, including a presentation from @CatholicHighrEd and @StMarysU on the Higher Education Holistic Impact Report. The study highlighted how Catholic colleges and universities excel in key areas compared to secular institutions, reinforcing core values of life, community, and the common good. It was a joy to connect with Presidents from @StMarysU, @bellarmineU, and so many others throughout the day! The afternoon plenary, led by Brian Rosenberg (@hgse) and President Patricia McGuire (@TrinityDC), tackled the critical question: Is Higher Education Serving the Public Good? The answer is a resounding YES! Institutions, both locally and collectively, must share their stories and showcase the impact they are making to fulfill their social contract with communities. This was followed by an extended session on mission-centered consolidation and strategic partnerships with @stambrose, @MountMercy, @LewisUniversity, @MSMU_LA, and @UrsulineCampus. Finding moments for fellowship and breaking bread with amazing people, including those even from #2025ClimateSummit @LeadOnClimate. Looking forward to more conversations on #Sustainability, #ExperientialLearning, #ServiceLearning, #CommunityEngagement, #EngagedScholarship, #HIPs, #ServicioSocial, #AprendizajeServicioSolidario, and #Solidaridad!

@AACU #AACU25 kicked off today with fantastic morning sessions! The Carnegie Elective Classifications team @CarnegieFdn @ACEducation shared insights on their 20-year legacy of advancing higher education’s public purpose. From community engagement and its global reach to leadership—and now sustainability, which was just released this week—the classifications continue to empower institutions to better serve their communities and uphold the public good, all while aligning with the basic framework. Day 2 at @aacu #AACU25 was nothing short of inspiring! Hearing from leaders like President @csuf, CEO @PhiBetaKappa, and @HowardU @ltfenwick @nhannahjones reminded us of the transformative power of education—the moment when students’ minds open up and, in turn, expand the perspectives of their educators. #AACU25 @aacu last night opened with an inspiring forum featuring @nhannahjones, who shared her profound journalistic and historical insights. Three powerful quotes deeply resonated and gave us hope: "I came from a people who had to believe that the impossible can be made manifest, and that there were some allies with them who were willing to lay their lives on the line to also make the impossible manifest." In the spirit of #MLK: "We come from people who know that, even if we don’t believe we will live to see those changes, we must fight for them anyway." "We have an obligation to be good ancestors one day, an obligation to our communities right now, and an obligation to those hiding in the shadows in this moment because they don’t have the ability to go out and fight. I have hope in us to exercise our power!" What a powerful way to kick off the conference! Excited to continue learning, building fellowship, and shaping solutions to the most pressing challenges in #HigherEd. #Selfie with @masnNationals @teddyroosevelt and so many friends, including @BonnerNetwork #BonnerLove! Together, we’re advancing #HIPs, #ExperientialLearning, #ServiceLearning, #CommunityEngagement, and #EngagedScholarship. @WashingtonDC #Only1D

This #MLKDay, we are reminded of the importance of supporting our neighbors and communities through service. As Dr. King said, “Everybody can be great… because anybody can serve.” Today is not only about honoring Dr. King’s legacy, but about actively engaging in change. Reflect on life’s most persistent and urgent question: “What are you doing for others?” As millions across the country answer that call, find out how you can make an impact and how organizations are bringing Dr. King’s vision to life: #CivicEngagement #CommunityEngagement #MLKDay2025 #BeTheChange #MLKDayOfService #MLK #ADayOn #NationalDayOfService
