Time, alcohol use fluctuations and fibrosis are uncertainties in the current MetALD nomenclature and problematic. Low HDL is an independent marker of cirrhosis so that criterion should probably be excluded in advanced fibrosis

NEW: Today, I’m releasing a Surgeon General’s Advisory on the causal link between alcohol consumption and increased cancer risk. Alcohol is the 3rd leading preventable cause of cancer in the U.S., contributing to about 100,000 cancer cases and 20,000 cancer deaths each year.

@DebbieShawcros1 @ebtapper @AmerGastroAssn @MarkThursz @EwanForrest1 Steroid-fan here. STOPAH was a monster landmark trial, but still had issues: no biopsy, terminated early. This individual data meta-analy incl STOPAH of 11 trials showed 28d benefit Probably best used in younger, hepatomegaly, non-F4, non-ACLF>2.
