Super Typhoon Goni is about to slam into the Phillippines as about as strong of a storm as the planet can produce
If it landfalls at its current strength (195 mph with gusts to 235 mph!!) it will be the most powerful tropical cyclone on record to make landfall in world history
The National Hurricane Center is currently tracking 8 systems...EIGHT
6 of which they're issuing advisories for. I don't think there's enough coffee in the world for them
This will not end well. Potentially historic rain is forecast that will lead to areas of catastrophic flooding. In terms of impact severity, it brings to mind the terrible flood event in South Carolina on October 1-5, 2015.
Stalling tropical systems are the worst
The potential crippling lake-effect snow event coming later this week off Lake Erie, will occur exactly 8 years after the blockbuster event of 2014 where up to 65" fell just south of Buffalo.
Even 8 years later, the radar is still mind blowing
@foxweather
Just absolutely insane video from Thursday out of Columbia County, GA (near Augusta)
Winds gusted to 56 mph in Augusta, but no doubt were MUCH stronger here
Dora is about to do something that has only been done once before (that we know of)
Stay at hurricane strength in the East, Central and West Pacific Basin.
And as a result, it will get a new name - Typhoon Dora!
Just a remarkable storm
Just want to give a shoutout to
@NHC_Atlantic
for absolutely nailing the forecast track of Tropical Storm
#Elsa
The first graphic is their forecast from 5 DAYS ago and the second map is Elsa's position today
Nearly perfect.
Calling it now, there is going to be a localized, but catastrophic flood far removed from Debby's center where no one is expecting
Looking at you Virginia, Maryland or Delaware
Okay this is nuts
Salt Lake City set a new record for their hottest September temperature today
It broke the record that was set...yesterday
Which broke the record that was set... Saturday
In fact, the top 5 hottest September temperatures have all occurred in the past week!
🚨ALL-TIME WETTEST DAY IN NEWARK, NJ🚨
7.20" so far today makes it their wettest day in 90 years of record keeping. It breaks the previous record of 6.73" on November 8, 1977
Still a ton more rain to go before midnight. They're going obliterate this record.

Before and after of the house that caused
@NWSAtlanta
to give the Newnan, GA tornado an EF4 rating
I can't be sure, but I think that car must have been in the garage and the house blew away around it 😲
Dora has truly been an explorer
We can trace back Dora's roots all the way back to the Atlantic when it was designated Invest 95-L!
That disturbance was first identified by NHC on July 19. Since then it has traveled about 10,000 miles

Of the 66 tornado warnings yesterday, 9 were the rarely used Tornado Emergency.
Tornado emergencies are reserved for when there is a severe threat to human life and catastrophic damage is imminent or ongoing
It was the most issued in a single day since April 28, 2014 (12)
As
@JimCantore
put it earlier, "it's the meteorological geek-out moment of the morning"
Converging winds on Lake Michigan are causing the lake-effect band to dance and spin.
It's the
#FirstDayOfSpring
which means today is the day that the sun is directly above the equator. Check out how that looks on this morning's visible satellite
Shout out to the National Weather Service. From 7 AM CDT yesterday - 7 AM CDT today,
@NWS
offices issued 141 separate tornado warnings
According to
@akrherz
, this is the most within the 7a-7a (12z-12z)
24-hour period since March 2-3, 2012!
The cone no longer tells the full forecast story for

Just look at the satellite.
#Laura
is a large hurricane that extends far beyond the confines of the cone. Impacts will be felt over a 100 miles from the center
Both Invests 90L & 91L are in uncharted territory.
Since 1950 there has never been a tropical depression or storm that has developed in the western Gulf of Mexico or east of Bermuda

The National Weather Service in Lake Charles has evacuated their office and the graphic below, shows why
A storm surge of 9 ft or more could inundate their office.
We'll see how long the radar (white dome) will hold out
@NWSBrownsville
is backing up their operations
@itstiffanieb
Hi! I completely get what you're saying. Check out the rest of my feed, I was tweeting out the awful impacts from the rest of city. It's a terrible situation for many this morning.
Tropical Storm
#Gonzalo
is now forecast to become the first hurricane of the 2020 season by early tomorrow (July 23rd)
The average date of the first hurricane is August 10th
This morning's Hurricane Hunter Mission into Tropical Depression 22 was halted prematurely because the plane was struck by lightning 😲
Thankfully it seems everyone is okay and the next flight goes out this evening
Right across the street from the
@weatherchannel
studios, Rottenwood Creek has flooded portions of the new Bob Callan trail. At 9.44 feet, the creek is the highest it's been since I moved here in 2013.
You hate to see this. A nearly vertical line indicating an extremely rapid rise Guayanes River at Yabucoa, Puerto Rico
Catastrophic flooding is expected
What a terrible time for an island not even close to recovered from Hurricane Maria in 2017
I present to you the worst weather in the U.S. right now
It's courtesy of what will likely be Alaska's strongest low pressure on record with a pressure ~920 mb
A humanitarian disaster is unfolding across Central America
Tropical Depression 31 is expected to track toward the same areas devastated by Hurricane
#Eta
Double digit rain is expected on top of the 10-30" received last week
I shudder to think of the flooding that will occur
Hurricane Hunters have flown through the core of Hurricane
#Iota
and have measured 160 mph winds and a pressure down to 921 mb
We'll see what
@NHC_Atlantic
says, but we could be looking at the only the 2nd November category 5 storm on record in the Atlantic
An outbreak of Saharan Dust will blow across the Atlantic in the coming days.
This Saharan Air layer, which is warm and dry, typically inhibits any tropical activity

165 mph maximum winds
Just under 1/2 mile wide max width

Lightning near the inner core typically signals upcoming intensification within the next 24 hours in developing systems.
After looking like it was for sure on a collision course with eastern Long Island,
#Henri
has come in farther east. This puts Rhode Island in the path for its landfall. The wind will be maximized there

Incredible video from a historic day in Death Valley. 1.46" of rain fell today which is their 2nd wettest day in 111 years of record keeping. It missed tying
#1
by only 1/100th inch!
1.46" is also 68% of the average YEARLY rain in the park (2.15")
Major flash flooding in Death Valley National Park this morning. Approximately two dozen vehicles trapped in mud and rock debris at the Inn at Death Valley. Took nearly 6 hours to get out.
