@pault595 I modified some stainless screws to replace some crappy ones on my Modern Speed Twin. So it's not just owning old bikes when you need one. The scary thing is that an XS650 is 50 years old.

Well now the lever is sorted it's time to sort out the pivot bolt as it doesn't fit properly once the hand guard is fitted. So a short time on the lathe and mill and it's sorted

If you like your special forces books I can recommend this. I have polished it off in 3 days. A brilliant read

Thanks to those who identified the master cylinder for me. I ordered a dog leg CX lever and after a bit of a fettle to get it to fit it works. It brings the lever about 1/2" ( 12mm for new people) closer to the bars. So that's a result. I can now reach the lever easily
