My mam passed away peacefully this morning. I kept my promise to care for her at home, and she died with me and my brother holding her hand. My dad has been waiting a long time for her. Safe travels mam.

A lot of people want to ban sugary jelly etc from hospitals. After massive life saving gut surgery, ICU, TPN, TEN.. The jelly & ice cream my Mam gets today will be the nicest thing she has ever eaten.

Two years ago my mam was admitted for emergency surgery for a ruptured duodenum, secondary to having stage IV cancer, she weighed 6st and wasn't expected to survive. Today she was discharged from the dietitians

There were no side rooms in ITU when my dad went through this, curtains were drawn and there were no visitors at the other beds. It was as dignified and as peaceful as you can get in this environment. ITU staff are amazing, they couldn't save my dad but later they saved my mam.

I'm sorry, this is an issue with internal ethics committees. We once were told we should be collecting gender data. We do physiological studies where we need to either correct for sex or analyse males/ females separately. Will make research uninterpretable and worthless.

Frustrating again to see sugar discussed on TV.....and dates being described as less healthy than Lindt chocolate because they contain more sugar. Perhaps they should attend some of our UG lectures where we teach the difference between free and total sugars.

When my dad was seriously ill, his intimate procedures were dealt with my one of the male nurses. Seemed obvious at the time, giving a bit of dignity in an environment where there is usually very little. Of course he was fortunate there were male nurses.

4 weeks today, I brought my mam into my home, to look after her at the end of life. It has been a privilege to give her back this month, but it has been exhausting, harrowing at times. But it's over now as we sit with her, in shifts, awaiting those final breaths and a final rest.

Watching the witch hunts on BBC2, tales from North Berwick. The physical and psychosexual torture and vilification of 1000s of women, at the hands of men, changing the law to make it legal. Started in Scotland, came to England.....the timing seems somewhat ironic.

I have a theory. Carbs are evil. Runners eat lots of carbs, hell we regularly squirt gel carbs into our mouths washed down by liquid carbs. Runners don't seem to be at increased risk of diabetes. Perhaps its not just what you eat, but what you DO thats important?

32 years since I lost my dad to pancreatitis. My daughter asked me if I still missed him ? Hard to articulate but still had a cry in the car when unchained melody came on, the song we played at his funeral. I think all wounds leave a scar.

I grew up in poverty. More kids left our school pregnant than went to University. Education is the only escape for most people. I am now a Professor and able to give my children opportunities/aspirations that didn't exist for me. Social mobility is possible but education is key.
