Watching the religious right in America worshipping Trump and proudly refusing to take reasonable precautions in a pandemic should once and for all convince us that many American fundamentalist Christians are just one Kool-Aid™ packet away from going full Jim Jones.

@PetrosScientia You rely on linguistic scholars and textural critics, otherwise you would not have your Bible. You also rely on a long line of teachers who have programmed you with all sorts of beliefs that you think are now your own.

@MenWhoSawJesus The canonical gospels are all anonymous. The texts do not state the authors. They are literally what the word "anonymous" means. Likewise Genesis does not state its authorship. A few letters of Paul claim him as author. Revelations claims "John of Patmos" as an author.

The book of Acts is dubious, as evidenced by contradicting Paul in his own letters. You keep piling up presumptions... as if that means anything other than you're constructing a house of cards.

Only apologists still claim that "Jesus" is a well attested figure in history. Reality is contrary to that.

@RevivedThoughts @Evan26815416 That doesn't make sense. Historians have long thought that the "Jesus" of the canonical gospels was some Jewish radical/activist/preacher. Ever since Schweitzer the default position has been that "Jesus" was an apocalyptic preacher.

@MichaelHorton_ That humans have a tendency to escapism is not a great revelation. Sometimes that escapism is dressed up with liturgical garb, and sometimes it is not. Leading thinkers discovered the deficiencies of Christianity long ago, those left in the pew tend to have less education.
