I've been working on a system for scoring media opinion articles (the overarching opinion rather than line-by-line fact checking, etc). It is based on discoveries in survey and prediction science through the work of people such as @PTetlock, @dprelec, @marrrcellin, @HowePiers, @PavelDAtanasov among others. There are two distinct and independent parts to the system. We score the article itself via the first part (even in the absence of a verifiable event or ground truth). The second is a modified Bayesian Truth Serum for scoring individual respondents, adapted for continuous probabilities with some refinements to remain robust at low n. The distinction is crucial as if we scored bettors via their proximity to the aggregate, the market would devolve into a Keynesian Beauty Contest with no verifiable event to vindicate insightful contrarians and give a poor signal. The combination enables us to recreate the incentives found in markets with near-term verifiable outcomes and settle within 2 weeks ensuring a reasonable payout timeframe for the writer.
