As a children’s author/illustrator, it is saddening to see these books bc, apart from the ethics of AI and stolen artwork, kids deserve better!!!
I’m tired of people who see kidlit as an easy get-rich-quick scheme and putting in the absolute minimal effort into their books
I spent the weekend playing with ChatGPT, MidJourney, and other AI tools… and by combining all of them, published a children’s book co-written and illustrated by AI!
Here’s how! 🧵
omg artists are not gatekeeping anything you can literally pick up a pencil, watch some YouTube videos and learn how to draw in a month
artists aren’t born with god-given talent; everyone starts from somewhere + I’ll gladly share resources with you but I have no patience for AI
I know that bad + cheaply made media that exploits kids for big profit has always existed, but like… ugh I just feel so strongly about this. Kids aren’t stupid and they deserve to have well written/crafted media. Especially since we’re talking about their formative years!!!
A lot of ppl mad that Deb is quoting ‘$15k for a jpg’ and they should’ve been happy with 3k
Yes, work-for-hire brought up the price. But a lot of factors go into pricing art: Time spent, expenses, experience etc but most importantly the VALUE it brings to the client.

I collaborated with Target on a dream project!!!
Holiday wrapping paper, gift bags, cards and ornaments!!!
If you go please send me a photo since we don’t have target in Canada sadly :’)

Hi
#southasianartists
! 🌸🌸 I’m Anoosha, a Pakistani author/illustrator and character designer for animation
I recently learned how to traditionally paint and here are some of the pieces I made!
Drawing is does takes years to master but depending on the style you can cover a LOT in one month and get your basic down. Within a year you will see enormous improvement and unless you’re doing this professionally (editorial, kidlit, surface illo etc) that’s really all you need
Oh dear this blew up
I don’t think AI is coming for kidlit soon. Apart from the value for good writing/art, it’s also the technical aspect:
It’s hard to artdirect AI, make revisions w/o layers, consistency, copyright etc
But we NEED publishers to make a formal stance against AI
Begin your journey with the art fundamentals:
Then you can switch over to lessons focused specifically on anatomy, then perspective, then color and light all on YouTube.
Hello
#portfolioday
:) I’m a Pakistani-Canadian picturebook author/illustrator looking for opportunities in books, character design and general + surface illustration :)
However while my job is safe (for now) the biggest threats from AI are new artists who are getting their start from small gigs and commissions.
There should be clear laws on the ownership of AI art, so people aren’t able to publish and profit off of stolen work.
✨NEW VIDEO✨
I am starting a new video series called ‘Picture Book Basics’, which covers all the basics you need to know to start your children’s’ illustration career.
In Ep1, we cover the FIVE ways you can work as a kidlit artist.
Link below to watch!
Fortnite is a billion dollar company, and
1) they would have access to a massive budget
2) if the art is used in a big ad campaign, the value the art has to the client is huge because it would bring in more users/money
3) a LOT of people are seeing it (2/4)
In comparison, if a small company with a lower budget asked for the exact same illustration (maybe for a smaller use like 1 IG story post), you would charge less bc the value is lower
This is how the same illustration could be priced wildly differently between two clients (3/4)
To those disheartened by the AI convo:
1) if the selfpub author you could’ve worked with uses AI, they were probably a nightmare client. (Poor pay, doesnt value artist)
2) Work on your folio +get a literary agent
if it helps, check out my video guides:

Portorosso! ✨🎨
A Luca inspired travel poster for
@gallerynucleus
’s Disney Dream Destinations show.
By popular demand, prints are now available on their website! :)
After years of illustrating other peoples stories, this year I became a writer with my book That’s Not My Name!! What a dream come true!!
It still feels weird to call myself an author, even now as I’m working on my second book and brainstorming my third haha
#NationalAuthorsDay
I had the pleasure to collaborate with Target on a Holiday packaging line!
I designed some wrapping paper, gift bags/boxes, cards and an ornament :) if you see it in Target let me know!!!
Visit Portorosso!

My piece for the
@gallerynucleus
Disney Dream Destination show, currently on display until Jan 1. The original is also on sale on their website!
@winterwarburton
Oh god don’t even get me started on cocomelon/little Angel etc
I know there isn’t a right way to parent but when you have carefully researched and beautifully designed shows (like bluey), it’s such a shame that junk food shows like CM get the most views
Not gonna share the article but TIME wrote up a piece on AI kidlit guy and pulled one of my tweets for it without consent.
Instead of giving this guy a larger platform can these media companies interview the ACTUAL artists being affected by this
Do people constantly say/spell your name wrong? Have people ever told you to change your name to something easier?
This is the premise of my book ‘That’s Not My Name!’ which I hope is able to help kids be confident and love their names 💕
Hi!! I’m going to be tabling at Lightbox expo in two weeks :)
I’ll have prints, art books, pins, tote bags and copies of my books.
I will also be presenting two panels.
Come say hi!!!
All 21 pieces from my solo show
@gallerynucleus
!
The show will be up from 15-23 Oct; all originals are for sale as well as prints on their website!
I sold out of my art books but I’ll try to order more soon and have them up online :)
@katriadoodles
It’s incomprehensible to me that someone can’t understand that the PROCESS is what makes art enjoyable. I guess equating it to other hobbies like gardening, knitting, working on a car, woodworking, home Reno etc where yes you get a product of it but the fun is in the WORK
In great news, we are going to see a second printing of THATS NOT MY NAME in early October!
It’s currently sold out on Amazon and a lot of stores, but don’t worry it’ll be stocked soon 🥰❤️
✨NEW VIDEO✨
In Episode 3 of my PICTUREBOOK BASICS series, we tackle important vocabulary and the different parts of a picturebook!
Learn about title pages, bleed/trim size, proofs and more!
@ypenv
Your knowledge of the theory of art and fundamentals will transfer over but there will be a bit of a learning curve at the beginning since you are learning a new medium. I’ve always been a digital artist but recently taught myself to paint this year; hard at first but you learn!
In ONE WEEK, my second authored book comes out! 🙌🙌✨✨
You can still preorder for an exclusive print, and enjoy the book as soon as it comes out on March 26 :)
Hitting 100k followers is weird so I’m resetting my Twitter! As much as I hate to do it, this is now a Professional Brand Twitter™ and no more fun is allowed here haha
To everyone saying that Deb missed out on an amazing opportunity:
Deb know what their time and art is worth lmao and clearly has worked with other high paying clients to know that.
They probably have many other clients lined up who are willing to pay 🤷🏽♀️ no big loss lol
🌸✨🌸
Just landed in LA and here’s a reminder that my solo gallery show at
@gallerynucleus
opens THIS SATURDAY!!! If you’re in town, come by (5-8pm) to check out the pieces and hang out!!! Apart from 21 original pieces there will also be three prints and copies of my art book!
Today is the Day! Anoosha (
@foxville_art
)'s Solo Exhibition is open today at 6PM. Be sure to swing by in person to meet Anoosha in person and get your prints & books signed. We will also have traditional Pakistani treats!
Oh also! This was really important to me; I tried my best to make this collection more ‘winter holiday’ themed than Xmas since I don’t celebrate it lol
Think cosy hot chocolate, holiday dinners, exchanging gifts, ice skating, and snowmen :)
A big thanks of course to the Target design team who brought me on board and brought my three main illustrations to life in a bunch of creative ways.
I will share the actual illustration pieces later in the month :) :)
@pk_kenzie
Intermissions are a regular thing in South Asian movie theatres! Our movies are pretty long so it’s nice to get a little stretch and snack haha
🌲 📚 We are excited to share the 2023 Forest of Reading nominated list of Canadian books with wonderful stories! Encourage the young people in your life to expand their knowledge, meet new friends, and participate in creative classroom learning.
