By doing this, they essentially destroy Avatar’s explicitly anti-sexist message
Sokka’s misogyny early on not only led to extraordinary character growth, but also made every subsequent female fighter seem even more impressive by contending in a world where sexism is so prevalent
Netflix's live-action "Avatar: The Last Airbender" series is toning down the sexism.
"We took out the element of how sexist [Sokka] was. I feel like there were a lot of moments in the original show that were iffy," says Kiawentiio (Katara).
“Yeah, totally,” adds Ian Ousley
There’s something darkly poetic about Adult Swim canceling a show largely due to its uncomfortable depiction of women’s issues…in an episode which criticizes society for stigmatizing discussion and openness about women’s issues
Adult Swim said they wanted darker content in the show, and the team delivered
Unfortunately, Adult Swim neglected to mention that it was only interested in laughing at victims, rather than empathizing with them
@BatSuper4
@lemonthepepper
Do you think people are specifically campaigning for a scene of these 3 eating burgers in the sky
Is that what you think is happening
@ettingermentum
“Hey you know that autistic surgeon we suck at writing”
“The one that’s gonna influence how a large number of viewers think of autistic people in real life? Yeah why”
“MAKE HIM TRANSPHOBIC”
“Because of the autism?”
“BECAUSE OF THE AUTISM”
@AstralRosey
This episode was basically the final straw (along with a planned follow up which would have focused more on Miss Sculptham’s experience as a rape victim)
@venusbunnyboo
Oh of course I’m not saying that, but the societal problems faced by male victims vs female victims are very different, so I still consider the treatment of female victims to be a feminist issue
@BluVoltVA
I love when most of the main characters are having a normal day but one of them is engaged in an epic and emotional struggle somewhere else
Bonus points if the character gets back wounded and exhausted, and everyone is just like “Hey man where were you slacking off”
@martsharter
Hey guys, quick tip!
You can safely ignore everything that someone has ever said if they ever unironically use something like this as an argument:
@libertycappy
Oh yes, I am always blaming every white child for slavery
This is a position I certainly hold as a leftist, and not some absurd strawman made in a last ditch effort to escape the possibility of engaging in systemic analysis
You totally owned me
@fivestarclemen
@kotbox__
I actually think the problem is that they’re GOOD
Like the framing and research is usually garbage, but they’re so engaging that they can make a lot of people (my past self included) forget what the vast majority of 4chan really is
@InTimsWorld
TIM
YOU HAVE TO DUMP THE ROM
YOU COULD BE A HERO OF GAME PRESERVATION
TIM THIS IS ART HISTORY YOU HAVE TO DUMP THE ROM
TIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIM
@smeckledorfd
That was actually an interesting decision
The main reasoning for airing the finale first was that “if we can get away with what’s in that episode, we can get away with the rest of the season”
10 years later, Death Battle has become a completely different beast, it's time to reevaluate from the ground up one of our biggest...
wait what's that?
@Fresherluke
“Last minute” that Lumity screenshot was literally from season 1, and they got together less than halfway through season 2
You didn’t watch the show
@RoyReadsManga
@Exile_115
I honestly get it
The main draw of DBS Broly is the animation, and the only big takeaway is that there’s a strong guy named Broly who likes us now
By contrast, Super Hero is a lot more story focused and can’t really be skipped over considering its consequences
@ZombiePlusCA
@RoosterTeeth
That’s some wild extrapolation, especially considering that most large studies don’t even specify that the abuse specifically came from a same-sex partner
