@DavidSandow1 @coyle_tim The red meat game looks strong for the 5 years. I wouldnβt recommend getting out but definitely look at your numbers and work out what will work best for you. π πͺππͺ

@DavidSandow1 @Agrista_au @PhilWhitp4 That would be accounted for in the stocking rates to some degree or how you dse rate them. Having a play with the GM budgets would be interesting to compare enterprises π€

@BenDooley8 @PhilWhitp4 @Agrista_au @DavidSandow1 Dry sheep equivalent A DSE is used as a method of standardising an animal unit and is the amount of feed required by a two year old, 50kg Merino whether to maintain its weight.

@DavidSandow1 @Agrista_au @PhilWhitp4 We try to get 30-50% of our lambs off before they need shearing. Grazing crops and lucerne have made it possible, some years easier than others. 2023 we retained all spring sales as the price was π© and shear everything. A good decision in the end but felt very uncomfortable.

@Agrista_au @DavidSandow1 @PhilWhitp4 So we come out at $5.74/dse for dual purpose merino enterprise shearing cost. A bit closer to Johnβs number π

@DavidSandow1 @Agrista_au @PhilWhitp4 An interesting one- a 50 kg/ 1dse rated sheep costs the same as a 65-70 kg/ 1.3 dse. They may or may not cut the same value in wool and still cost $11.50/ hd to shear. Xbred ewes and composites will be higher dse rated, cut less wool value and cost more to shear ~$14/ hd quoted.
