My FOSDEM talk is online! In case it isn't clear, I am not bashing the vendor or the authors of the software. It has some bugs, but for a hw company outside their usual turf it's great they used off the shelf components and made it so hackable! @hackaday

@leonard_coder @LukasHozda @opleonev @kai_fall Code and data need to be page aligned to give them separate permissions, add headers and you have three pages (simplifying). Optimizing for programs without any data isn't particularly useful.

@slpnix If you want to rewrite, just use Redox. The only advantage of zig over Rust is that the glue code is less complex, but you lose the encoding of lifetimes in the type.

@RFargmar @trajan317 The point of DEI is that lower qualified people are being pulled from distribution 1, even if there are more qualified people in distribution 2. It's not about forcing lower qualified people in, it's about striving to find the right people no matter their background.

@TK512 @LukasHozda For example, if the string isn't null terminated it might crash with SIGSEGV.

@SemperVigilant1 @apolo_andrea I assumed and still assume that you couldn't read *any* scientific paper because you couldn't figure out "which one is the best" in a list that's sorted by number of citations. It's like someone asking to learn nuclear physics and then asking if 2 is more or less than 1.

@SemperVigilant1 @apolo_andrea I mean, you wanted to read a biology paper but within three messages the level of the discourse is "I'm rubber you're glue"? Anyhow the first paper on the list is the most cited and an h-index of almost 50 is pretty damn good.

@SemperVigilant1 @apolo_andrea Coz the only thing worse than ignorance is not knowing you are ignorant.

@SemperVigilant1 @apolo_andrea If you don't even know what "sorted by number of citations" means, I am sorry but I doubt you would understand a single word.

@HatzKatzn @FranticKitten @lilchiva @ariallendotcom @fawfulfan The EO per se doesn't do anything, but it establishes the direction of rescinding guidance for intersex people and it only mentions the ADA with the intention of adjusting accomodations to consider sex as defined in the EO. Here is where I read about it:

@joseph_h_garvin @madis_malarkey @HSVSphere You cannot write a safe doubly-linked list in Rust(*), so what. Build a safe abstraction once, then use it and call it a day. I am no Rust fanboy, but what does "safe" even mean in C? (*) unless you use refcounting or something else GC-like, then you can

@lilchiva @FranticKitten @ariallendotcom @fawfulfan On the other hand I am pretty sure they'd look out of place in the women's restroom. Which goes back to the relative societal importance of primary vs. secondary sexual characteristics, but I guess that's expected when policy disguises transphobia as science.

@lilchiva @FranticKitten @ariallendotcom @fawfulfan Male phenotype and female gonads are possible both with and without SRY gene (.

@lilchiva @ariallendotcom @fawfulfan Read the EO... it literally says it cannot. I mean it will be challenged but it doesn't make it any less scientifically wrong. It's very easy to start from a true fact and distort it, whether inadvertently or not, into something different that does marginalize or discriminate.
