@joshwhiton I think this is partly on Apple for squeezing the licensing fees for using lightning. I'm generally against heavy-handed regulation, but I'm glad they were forced to switch to USB-C.

@lijukic In Frankfurt, when there's a queue on the connection passport control, they go around every 5 minutes and ask for the people who have connections within the next ~15 minutes to skip the queue.

@Altimor I hope that Milei succeeds, but it’s too early to judge. Budget surplus is not a very good metric since it’s easy to improve by just stopping to pay government employees. The real success will be to if he stops the inflation and shows economic growth.

@erinoverbey Based on these 4 screenshots, Theo writes valid things and to the point, while Hakeem answers with nitpicking about communication style. Also, why on earth does it matter that one of them is black?.

@JamesMelville To cover all of the electricity demand with solar farms you’d need to cover just ~1% of land with solar farms. Also, the panels are recyclable even now, let alone in 20-30 years when the technology matures.

@cassiecodes As I understand, you were saying that basing AI persona on some fictional archetype that people like is somehow “mega ick”. That’s what I don’t understand. Let people use AIs with whatever personas they like.

@skooookum I don't think this is such a stupid question. I could imagine an OS architecture, in which this would be the case, like if malloc were a syscall and all the programs shared the memory. This could even be efficient in some situations.

@chinesegon “Lookup the studies yourself” is a red flag IMO. If you want to convince people about something and you think that finding the studies is easy, just do it yourself. 1. You will be much more convincing. 2. Sometimes if you look for the studies it turns out that they prove not.

@cassiecodes I'm sure there will be more than one persona available when it launches. Men like “female characters written by men”, and the goal of the AI to be liked, not to reflect real people.

@RichardHanania I think it's more about HOW she talks about it, then about what exactly she is talking about. I think it's normal to not know the exact racial breakdown of a country that you go to. But mouthing the word "white" as if it's a slur broke me down.

@nabeelqu I've worked for Google under Eric, Larry and now Sundar and unfortunately I have to agree. Sundar's tenure brought a lot of bureaucracy and a fight against transparency. I stopped watching all-hands since it's 90% corpspeak. But Sundar is good at keeping the share price high.

@strike_dr This can’t be correct. From the first two lines you get that the total income of the top 10 should be 9.5k * 333m = 3 trillion. So it implies that the average income of the top 10 is 300 billion.

@CyberPunkCortes It almost never like that. New discoveries are made by doing the work, going deeper into the data and the theory. I can't think of any profound theory that was just "missed" by the previous generation of researchers.

@AshaLogos That’s not how I would characterize his belief. Rather he argues that people living in Eurasia were is a better position when transitioning to farming due to more available crops and farm animals, giving them a head start. While not quite proven, this is plausible.

@tegmark I’m not Yann, but how about passing Steve Wozniak’s “Coffee Test”:. A machine is required to enter an average American home and figure out how to make coffee: find the coffee machine, find the coffee, add water, find a mug, and brew the coffee by pushing the proper buttons. This.

@LolOverruled That’s not how I would regulate airlines with (almost) free market. I would print the airline’s liability for passenger’s death on the ticket and will make sure it’s insured. (A bit like liability insurance for driving a car). I would personally fly the airlines which will accept.
