The negative externalities of exclusion in conference participation are much higher, they are just the cultural norm to date.
Now that the we have the tech, the key is optimizing how to integrate hybrid tech to maximize participation & inclusion
We'll have to fully commit to in-person conferences again. The negative externalities of hybrid are just too high.

I will always remember how my classmate had to take a prelim at UW-Madison despite getting a passing grade in a class that excepted him/her from the exam b/c a Prof entered the wrong grade and the Econ department wouldn’t bother to fix it/acknowledge the error…

Further, Borjas’ stance has been shown to be based on spurious findings that rely on data artifacts that are sensitive…
Time and time again it's been proven that immigration does depress wages, especially of those of the most vulnerable class. Every media outlet has exposed how guest worker visa programs have been used by employers to displace American workers in favor of cheaper foreign labor.

I think Jodi has summarized the situation. There is nothing wrong with having RAs on JMPs, but it is important to realize that this is not available to most & when work is judged w/out taking this into account it has the potential to exacerbate inequality, hierarchy, etc...
