It’s stunning. I absolutely love it. Yes, it has shades of Dorian Gray and Dracula … but it is a remarkable portrait, at once both vulnerable and strong. The butterfly has so many symbolic meanings. This is a painting for the ages.

This never occurred to me before - but have just read of the idea that Elizabeth I didn’t marry or have a child so as to end her father’s bloodline, in revenge for the death of her mother. Perhaps I’m just slow. It makes total sense.

More thoughts on Wuthering Heights are that, on a first reading in my teens, I was obsessed with the tragic romance of Cathy and Heathcliff ... but now I'm older I see it as an abusive and mutually destructive relationship. Fascinating how age/ experience changes a reading.

My Uncle 'Bossy' was trained as a blacksmith in his youth. He made the metalwork for this door at the stunning Minster church in Leominster. Today he died, and we'll all miss him terribly.
