Hullo all! I am awake (been asleep since 4.45pm yesterday so fair), and the surgery went well 👍 The healing pain post-op is NOT a party but obvs that will heal & it’s worth it to not have pain long-term.

We lost our beautiful little Magic yesterday and our hearts are broken. I’d forgotten how bloody awful this feeling is. She was on the doorstep when we pulled up in the moving van in 2015. A “street cat” according to the neighbours. We were v lucky she chose us to be her family🖤

Feel it’s important to share when agents get rejected, too: offered rep to an author almost x2 weeks ago & they had 3 offers in the end & went elsewhere. Gutted.
This industry is a merry go round of broken hearts. We all feel this way at one time or another.
But we keep going.

It strikes me that the debuts of so many now-bestselling authors’ (10+ years ago), whose backlist is revered, would have such a hard time selling if it were sent out now. Hooks weren’t as crucial to comm fic, nothing profound needed saying with lit fic … Just great stories.

Unrepped authors, I’m curious to know: if an agent you had submitted to emailed you on a Sunday, asking perhaps for a phone call or meeting etc, would that be a red flag for you? Or does the day of the week not matter (prior commitments notwithstanding)?
