Evening! I've finally got FSD to re-calibrate after 4 attempts! On an important note, when you do this procedure, as far as I could see in the "AutoPilot" menu, you're basically reverted to the default "Autosteer", if you look at the menu items, things like red light and lane keep are individual metrics, to keep track of and third but not the least FSD. When you run the calibration, you may end up in a situation where the wheel icon becomes full circle blue and then it tells you autopilot is READY, which is false, only autosteer will work, when I look at the AP menu, everything was 100% but FSD was actually 92%, so in my final recalibration attempt, I left the AP menu and drove some 60km down the highway until that one cleared to 100%. Once FSD actually reached 100%, I exited the highway, parked and reactivated FSD with all the defaults. On the 4th calibration, initially the car was hesitant and driving slow'ish, but it was centered in its lane, then we approached an intersection and it kind of swerve slowly from right to left and back to the right... I ignored it at that point as it was a quiet intersection, so it finally turned the corner and founds its way to the highway.... then BOOM, hurry mode on it merged in like it's nothing and finally perfect centered in the lane and passing other cars like I would if I was in control. It drove quite fast actually.... Once the car reached the end of the highway segment to go home, it went back into the city street E2E stack and it was actually driving down snowed in roads and managing its way to my condo flawlessly, it even drove around a car stuck trying to go up a hill... This is a CLEAR evidence that Camera Calibration has a MAJOR impact on the quality of FSD behaviour, the difference between a bad calibration and a good'ish one makes a day and night difference on autonomous driving. Up until now, I've always traditionally done a re-calibration shortly after every update, but normally it's in the fall or the summer or anything but the winter... There's a fair warning before you initiate the process that says CLEAR DAY WITH HIGHLY VISIBLE LINES UP TO 160KM.... I ignored it, because franky in the past, it didn't make much of a difference, but clear with FSD E2E on both city and highway, they've changed up how the calibration impacts the AI. The fact that the car drove like a drunkard before the highway, then went into BEAST MODE onto the highway and the perfect on city streets some 60km farther down proves that camera calibration is more than meets the eyes! I gathered that Camera Recalibration is an actual mini data training set, when you re-initiate it, you're basically doing a factory reset on AP/FSD itself! That % you see when you are resetting essentially represents the MINIMUM amount of data required for AP to work and then with some ADDITIONAL data, FSD.... It went from drunked idiot to superstar in the span of 75km from a finished recalibration and improve immediately after acting like a drunk... Quite interesting and this kind of confirms a long time theory I've had about the calibration, through the years I've always recommended to people to recalibrate whenever they had FSD issues and this is a point in case... Recalibration is 100% a factor in the FSD experience. Now why I recalibrated 4 times is more an a code ID-10-T on my part, it's winter here, darker sooner outside, so the initial data set was trash, but after trying a few times on a well lit highway, the issue resolved itself. Lesson of the day? Don't recalibrate in the winter or in the evening, if you must, make sure it is a clear sunny day with visible lines on the highway, otherwise you car will do all sort of weird shit like stir to the right and drive over the lines, because the calculated center my the camera is OFF.... Anyhow, case resolved and it was interesting that such a situation cleared up a theory... @teslascope @greggertruck @Tesla_AI @elonmusk @NotATeslaApp PS: To Ashok, is my theory crazy? PPS: Gregg, I essentially also ripped out my rim too with this FSD version, did you by chance do a recalibration that day or close to it when you touched the sidewalk?
IMPORTANT BUG - FSD 12.6.3 M3P 2019. So I’ve had an interesting afternoon with Tesla FSD 12.6.3, unlike day one, it’s been operating relatively smooth except for some few edge cases. I drove my kid to a friend’s place this afternoon and I parked to RECALIBRATE THE CAMERAS, well this was a huge mistake. First I cleaned up the cameras to remove the salt deposits, then I initiated the recalibration and drove around until it was done. Once it completed, I parked on the side of the road and change the autopilot configuration from AutoSteer to FSD with all my typical preferences and then I took off to my destination marked on the GPS. Immediately after activating FSD, the car always drove to the right most part of the lane too close to the sidewalk, it even drove onto the slush mounds, seeing that, I took over and placed the car in the middle of the lane and reactivated FSD, and again it veered to the right of lane, basically driving onto the line, I disengaged again and took it to the highway and the steering bug persisted. I turned off FSD until I could exit the highway and park to recalibrate the cameras AGAIN…. It’s about 90%, but I ran out of time to retry. But here’s an observation, when I looked at the FSD visualization, the guide line was not perfectly centred, the guide line kind of sprouted out from the car Center-Right and not the usual center, as if the visual was offset to the RIGHT… Otherwise great job guys, I’m hoping this is a calibration bug and I go back to greatness on the next drive… 🧐 FYI: @aelluswamy @Tesla_AI @teslascope @NotATeslaApp

@MrChallinger @machBmachBmach @Tesla @cybertruck Dude we all know and supervise FSD, this ain’t teaching anyone.
