She did not receive funds from her country, two years ago she was publicly mocked for asking for private sponsorships on her social media to make the Olympic dream come true. Today she won the first ever Olympic gold medal for the Philippines. #Olympics . That jerk recovery. 🤩.
History made. Hidilyn Diaz has won the first ever #Olympics #Gold medal for #PHI!. Philippines had their national anthem played for the first time at the games today. 🥺 #Tokyo2020 .

Technique is 🔑 #weightlifting . (I´m very excited to show you the full course on teaching the Olympic lifts to kids soon!)

One reason why it’s often easier for kids than older athletes to learn complex movements like the Olympic lifts is, that they don’t overthink the process of learning the technique. You show them and they just do it! #ICoachKids

“But I can control what I do on that track and that’s the thing that doesn’t get the respect and it blows my mind!” . @GoSydGo talking about something that many athletes and especially female athletes can relate to. If you got 10 min, watch her video:

When coaching young athletes and especially when teaching them something new, always keep their attention span in mind and base your programming on how long they can actually focus on a task. #YouthSports #PhysEd #ICoachKids

And another example: This has nothing to do with learning and practicing a sport, nothing to do with teaching tackling. This is some weird form of adult entertainment, not coaching. #concussion.

I couldn´t be happier for this guy to make his Springboks debut today. I don´t think anyone deserves it more than him. He put in so much work and played phenomenal two seasons for the @THESTORMERS. Congratulations, Manie! You´ll do great today! 🇿🇦🏉

On to the next chapter of my coaching journey. I will join @MahdAcademy in Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦 and start a new role as Head of Strength & Conditioning. I´m looking forward to developing athletic development programs for young female and male athletes in multiple sports.

What she´s been through and still stood there saluting (she´s Air Force) to the flag. Some governments don´t deserve their people.
Hidilyn Diaz was maliciously tagged in Duterte ouster plot after she voiced the extreme lack of support for athletes in the Philippines. THIS IS A POWERFUL AND SYMBOLIC WIN— and a huge F U to a gov’t that lets its people down AND that looks down on women.

That feeling when a big project is finally done and you´re happy with it 😃 It took a bit longer than expected, but. Tomorrow evening, I´ll finally launch my first "strength training for kids" online course for youth coaches and PE teachers! #StayTuned

S&C for female athletes is discussed and programmed way too much from an "injury prevention" prespective and performance aspects are often neglected. Most female athletes don´t reach their potential because coaches are too cautious and don´t load them enough.
One of my favorite interview questions: What is one thing you believe to be true that 99% of your field disagrees with?.

The Rugby Africa Cup, a Rugby World Cup qualifier for African nations is played in France (!). This is not how you grow the game in Africa, @RugbyAfrique. Very disappointing!

Last week with the @THESTORMERS before a new chapter starts for me. It’s been a pleasure to work with great players in the gym & on the field. My passing is still crap, but my kicking is semi decent now. Thanks to this dude, who‘s one of the smartest rugby brains I‘ve ever met!

Drop snatches are great for #weightlifting folks who struggle with getting under the bar fast, want to work on positioning their feet correctly or improve overhead stability. Extend elbows, move feet to the side as fast as possible and "work against the barbell"!

Clean: A „drill“ I use mainly for athletes with limited ankle/hip mobility or who „crash“ into the deep squat position in the turnover phase, is a power clean, stop in the catching position and then move slowly+controlled into the squat or as low as they can. #weightlifting

I coached a 14-year-old who had to take care of her 2 siblings after school while her mom was working 3 jobs to feed the family. I coached a 16-year-old who took care of his granny with dementia in shifts with his siblings. Both missed practices for acceptable reasons. (1/2).
Only acceptable reasons to miss practice after age 14. -Hurt.-Death in the family.-Mandatory School assignment (not homework) .-Extremely RARE Family event (Not a birthday or vacation) . Being on a team is a commitment, it’s time we treated it like that again.

Back to the roots. I still love to teach the Olympic lifts even though they’re so unpopular on S&C twitter nowadays. 😂I’ve recently started to introduce them in the @saudijudo S&C program: Positions first, then making it more dynamic later! 🥋🏋🏾♂️

Kids become "lazy" when you take away their autonomy & the ownership of their own sports participation & performance. When they don´t do it for themselves, but rather to please someone else like their coaches or parents. Kids aren´t soft, just tired of transactional leadership.
Kids aren't soft. Every year HS coaches get thousands of kids to voluntarily run 60-80 miles per week in the heat of the summer. When kids care, when the work has meaning & purpose, they will go to the well. Pointless hard work on things that don't matter decreases motivation.

It’s a wrap. I couldn’t ask for a better bunch of big brothers. @THESTORMERS will forever be an important part of my coaching journey and I’m beyond grateful for the experiences I’ve made. To all the players: I’ll miss y’all, keep on working hard and go win that thing! #PartofUs

A 16-year-old boy just lifted 206 kg (C&J) in the -81 kg category at the European Weightlifting Championships. We´re back to ridiculous numbers. I´m not gonna name the nationality or the coach. 😉. #iykyk

Just a thought: We all know that even elite athletes have no clue about S&C and constantly fall for gurus and fancy bs programs. Must we do a better job in educating them and explaining the why and how behind programming for performance on youth/high school/college level?.

I sold a weightlifting program for a while, which got lots of negative feedback for being "too boring", "not enough different exercises", "every week the same", "too basic". Unfortunately, many athletes expect the "silly stuff" with dozens of complexes and accessory lifts.
As a weightlifting coach I see so much over programming for people. 10 sets of this or that when 4 would probably suffice. 3 hour training sessions when someone actually should be there 1 hour. Silly stuff.

If you work as hard as possible and still always wonder if you’re lazy, you’re on your way to burnout. This also does not build self-efficacy in athletes because they constantly think they haven’t done enough even when they have.
Lazy people do a little work and think they should be winning! . -vs.-. Winners work as hard as possible and still wonder if they are being lazy!. Hard work > Lazy 💯. 🎥 @LewisCaralla .

Almost forgot my World Championships 2021 highlight today: 192 kg C&J from Rahmat Abdullah 🇮🇩 . Watch the slow first pull, magic in the second pull and then basically no pause before the jerk. #weightlifting

The biggest issue about this is, he did not get punished because he is a good rugby player. "Judge Clark said a conviction would have ended the Fijian-born player's Irish contract - and that would have been out of all proportion to the gravity of the offending.".
Sevu Reece is only playing for the All Blacks instead of in Ireland because he once chased a woman down the street, caught up with her, then smashed her face against the concrete, but the controversy today is that he’s playing against the country he was born in.
