The gap between traditional finance and DeFi becomes glaring when it comes to privacy. In TradFi, privacy is the norm. In DeFi, everything is transparent, which opens the door for issues like front-running and exposure of trading strategies.

The choice between both depends on specific use cases. Levelling is faster for limited operations, while bootstrapping enables more complex computations. For Web3 applications requiring arbitrary circuit computations, TFHE's bootstrapping capabilities often make it preferable.

TFHE's bootstrapping is particularly efficient, making it a strong contender for complex computations. Unlike BGV/BFV and CKKS, which are often used in levelled mode, TFHE can efficiently perform bootstrapping after each logic operation.

BFV is better suited for integer arithmetic, while CKKS is more efficient for complex numbers or fixed-point computations. However, a key advantage of TFHE is its ability to handle non-linear functions exactly, unlike BGV/BFV and CKKS which offer approximations.

One of the challenges in FHE is managing noise that accumulates during computations. If noise exceeds a threshold, decryption accuracy drops significantly. To address this, FHE schemes use either levelling or bootstrapping.

Levelling limits the number of operations a ciphertext can undergo before becoming corrupted. This is suitable for functions with known depths. Bootstrapping, on the other hand, resets the noise to a fixed level, allowing for more computations but it's computationally expensive.

While other FHE schemes like BGV/BFV, CKKS, & FHEW exist, TFHE excels at efficiently computing arbitrary Boolean functions. This is crucial for binary logic operations (OR, AND, XOR, NAND) used in blockchain and smart contract logic.
