DC's 2024 NAEP results show remarkably consistent improvement when compared with national and large city trends for most student groups, grade levels, and subjects. Nationally, scores were flat or declined again from 2022. Locally, overall DC scores improved from 2022. DC's progress on the 2024 NAEP outpaced national and large city averages in 4th & 8th grade math and reading. Among similar cities, geographically or demographically, that we've tracked the last 6 years, DC had the highest gains across all subjects.

Today's NAEP data show DC students are faring better than the nation when it comes to academic recovery. We will dig into the subgroup data today and tom to update our dashboard and analysis. See @OSSEDC presentation on the results:
On 2024 NAEP, DC 8th grade students' average score gap with their national peers shrank to lowest levels ever! The gap narrowed by 3 pts in math to -11, and by 4 pts in reading to -5. 4th grade gaps also shrank by 5 pts in math and 4 pts in reading, 2nd smallest gaps in history
