SATs, at the upper end, make very little difference. it is signal vs. noise. someone who scored a 1530 is not significantly less smart than someone who scored a 1600. of course, both are smarter than a 1200. but no one i know at stanford scored a 1200.
Half the people complaining about this are extremely, incredibly out of touch with how competitive top college admissions is now. High GPA, SAT and ECs is barely table stakes for "multiple top colleges".
So obvious they've never even applied to top colleges, let alone gotten in.
