Excited to share our first preprint from the Emrick Lab, & the culmination of my postdoc work so far! Using Ca2+ imaging and optogenetics, we uncover tooth-innervating sensory neurons as HTMRs that detect tooth structural damage and trigger a protective jaw-opening reflex.
Intradental mechano-nociceptors serve as sentinels that prevent tooth damage #bioRxiv
