Poland, Italy, Germany, Spain, Estonia, Portugal & Greece are responsible for 85% of the current trade. The @EU_Commission must take urgent, coordinated action. Poland, by far the largest importer, must use its Presidency of the EU to lead the charge. 🔗

Great article from our German partners @SZ on our investigation into Russian conflict plywood. ⚠️ Germany imported more than 90 million euros of conflict plywood from third countries since sanctions took effect.

Under #EUDR, the @EU_Commission will develop a methodology to benchmark countries based on the risk that their commodities are linked to deforestation. We are calling on the EU not to compromise the benchmarking through political deals and to consider human rights and legality.

"It has become very clear that crimes related to the commodities we consume have to be addressed through regulation, not consumer choices." A great @el_pais article referencing our work to highlight the importance of regulating forest-risk commodities ⬇️

Laws should serve society, not just cut costs for business. More than 270 civil society and trade union groups call on the @EU_Commission to act responsibly - addressing the real long-term costs of inaction. 👉 #RulesToProtect

Indonesia’s forestry minister has suggested that 20 million ha of forest may be cleared to grow food & biofuel crops. This could drive further deforestation, making it hard for Indonesian producers to access the EU market once the #EUDR comes into force.
